Are there any descendants of Herman WEHRE / WEHRI / WEHRY in Putnam County? Herman and wife Marie Elizabeth emigrated from Germany in 1833. With them were their children - Elizabeth, John Henry, Bernhardine, and Clement. John Henry is my gg-grandfather. He died in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1904. He lived in Ohio prior to moving to Indiana. I found Clement WHERY in the 1850 census for Putnam County. (His last name was spelled "Waera" by the census taker.) Also in his household were wife Mary (Fruikamp?) and daughters Elizabeth and Diana. I would love to exchange information with anyone with knowledge of this family.
Thanks, Phyllis

I am researching the Clement Wehri md to Merry Anna Henrietta Fruikamp or Trinkamp. On the 1850 census, Ottawa Township, listed along with Clement's family, there is a Henry Waeri age 61 and Maragrett age 54 who I assumed to be his parents. On the 1860 census they are living in the Ottawa Township, Putnam Co, OH Henry is 70 and Margaret 66. Henry is not listed on 1880 and Margaret is 84 living with Clement and his family in the Jackson Township. Margaret or Margaretetha was born 4 Jan 1796 in Oldenburg Germany and died 9 Oct 1888 in Jackson Twp, Putnam Co., OH, (death records 1867-1920). Beyond this I do not have any additional names. Could Herman and Marie Elizabeth be Henry and Margaret? Maybe an aunt and uncle? Let me know what you think! Thanks

I have been researching this family for several years. I am convinced that Henry and Margaret, living with Clement and family, are his parents - Herman Anton Heinrich Wehre and Marie Margaretha Elizabeth Borgerding. Henry and Margaret are my g-g-g grandparents. The earliest documentation I have for this family is a ship’s list. They sailed from Bremen, Germany to Baltimore, MD, on the ship Brunswick, arriving 17 Oct 1833. They were listed as coming from Dinklage, Oldenburg. They were listed as Wehre, Her. A. Heinr. M 48 farmer, Marie Elisabeth F 51, Elisabeth F 19, Joh. Heinrich M 15, Bernhardine F 12, Clemens M 8. . (Clement’s brother, John Henry Wehre, is my g-g-grandfather.)
The next record I found was a land patent for Herman H Weihry in Putnam, Co., OH, issued 20 March 1837. In 1840 they are in the census for Ottawa Twp., Putnam Co., OH:
Wary, Hein. - head of household between ages 50/60, 1 male between ages 10/15 (Clemens), 1 male 20/30 (John H.), one female 15/20 (Bernhardine), one female 50/60 (Marie Margaretha Elizabeth - his wife). Elizabeth, who would have been about 26 had very likely married and was in her own home.
There is a family history for the descendents of Clement Wehri (the way the name is spelled now) in Putnam County District Library in Ottawa. I visited the library and have that information. I also visited Margaret’s gravesite and have photographs of her stone if you are interested. Clement (or Clemens) married Anna Marie Henrietta Trenkamp 17 April 1845 in Glandorf, Putnam Co., OH. Their children are Elizabeth, Bernadina (she went by Dina and is sometimes listed as Diana in the census), Henry, Amelia, Frank, Clement, Joseph, Anna, Bernard, William, and Josephine.
Let me know how else I can help you. Are we related?
Phyllis

Hello again. Looking through my notes on the Wehri family, I found this entry:

Clemens came to America in 1833 with his parents. He was eight years old. They traveled to northwest Ohio and settled in Glandorf in Putnam County. In 1877 Clemens moved his family to Kalida, Ohio. Clement was a farmer and in 1880 (according to the Putnam County Atlas 1880-1895) owned 446 acres in Union Twp., and 480 acres in Jackson Twp. According to a record (Clemens Wehri Family History by Alfred Wehri 1984) located in the Putnam County District Library in Ottawa, Clemens grew weary of battling the trees in his farm fields and opted for the treeless landscape of North Dakota.
In April 1886 Clemens and Anna Wehri and five of their eleven children (Frank, Barney, Anna Kottenbrock, Josephine Nagel, and William) and their families made the move to North Dakota. The other six children remained in Ohio.

Also, in the 1880 Census, Margaret is listed as Clement’s MOTHER.

If you go to this site:
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/
Click on “Search Land Patents” at the top of the page and then in the page that comes up put North Dakota in the “state” blank and the name Clemens Wehri in the “name” blank, you will find the land patent record. If you just use the surname “Wehri” (no given name) you will have a list of not only Clemens land grants, but also that of his sons.

I have more information, but I don’t know what you are looking for – let me know.

Phyllis,

Thank you so very much for all of your time and information!! Josephine Wehri Nagel was my step-grandfather's mother. He has passed on and none of us have any real information about him and his family so I've been searching for information on the Simon J. Nagel and Josephine Wehri line. I would love to see the photograph of Margaret's grave and any family history would be fantastic - if it is not any trouble. I'd be happy to pay for any shipping or copying costs. How great to have been able to go there! I have copies of the 1850 & 1860 & 1880 census, ( I did go back and see that Margaret was listed as mother), also the Church of St. Clements Cemetary records that lists 29 Wehri's. I feel that I have only bits and pieces, not much to offer in comparision to what you have given, but if you if you think of anything I could help you with or if I find anything I'll be sure to let you know. I'd like to continue on into Germany to trace the line. Thanks - I guess we are step-cousins of sorts!

Tammy

Hi Phyllis...We crossed paths quite awhile back. I am working on the Bohrer line. I do think we are realted. I have a Sabine Kunstler that married Henry Borer. Sabine's sister is Carline Kunstler Wehry. Sabine went to live with she and her husband in Fort Wayne Indiana when Henry passed away. Do you have a Caroline in there...and I think I have a bit more...let me know if this ties....

I am SO thrilled to finally find someone other than a message...that is related to Sabine Kunstler. What would she be ..your grand/gr gr aunt? Henry Borer is my gr gr grandfather--Remegius Borer's brother. They also had a sister Rosa Borer Leifeld.(married William Leifeld...Remegius married William's sister Theckla.) I would guess that They all knew Caroline well. Sabine went to live with Caroline after Henry died. I am trying to trace Henry and Sabine's son John Borer b.2-23-1864/65 who also lived with Caroline Kunstler Wehry.( he married Clara Zeigler) If you look on the 1900 or 1910 census...that is who is living with Caroline and husband....Here is my home e-mail suzif@comcast.net .....send me yours incase I find more info for you!

Hi, Suzanne.
Yes, Caroline is my g-g-grandmother, and Sabine is my g-g-grandaunt. In 1880 Sabine Kunstler Bohrer and her son Henry were living with Caroline and Sabine's father, Val Kunstler, in Pusheta Twp, Auglaize Co, Ohio. Val Kunstler died in 1885. By 1900 census, Sabine is living with her sister and brother-in-law, John Henry and Caroline (Kunstler) Whery in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She is still with them until her death in 1912.
Regarding Sabine's son, Henry, I found this information: BOHRER, HENRY, Spouse: ZIEGLER, CLARA L., Marriage Date: 29 May 1889 County: Auglaize State: OH.

In the 1910 census, I found BOHRER, Henry, Head, M W 44, Married 19 yrs, born Ohio, father born Switzerland, Occupation Druggist - own store. BOHRER, Clara, Wife, F W 40, Married 19 yrs, 2 children 1 living, born OH, Father Germany, Mother OH. BOHRER, Otto H., son, M W 15 S, born Ohio, Father Ohio, Mother Ohio, School.
(Source: State: Ohio County: SHELBY Locale: 1-WD SIDNEY Series: T624 Roll: 1230 Part: 1 Page: 24B)

In 1930, Clara is age 59, a widow living alone in Sidney, Clinton Twp, Shelby County, OH.

I haven't been able to locate Otto in the census. Perhaps more could be found in courthouse records in Sidney, OH.

Nice hearing from you again.
