Surnames: Harris, Harrishovitz, Mendle
Just wondering if anyone can help with records from there areas. Like many, all I have are a few family stories passed down through the years and some naturalisation records which gave more questions than answers really!

Looking for information regarding ancestors of Kalman Harris in Lithuania. Facts ascertained: Naturalised in 1902. States that name is Colman Harris formerly known as Mendle. Born on 6th Sivan 1848 in Kellam gubernia KOVNO, Russia, parents Ber and Beila Sarah Mendle, Russian subjects. Kalman's son, Hyman, was naturalised in 1907. He states his name is Hyman Harrishovitz, known as Hyman Harris and that his father adopted the name Harris on arrival in UK for business purposes, Harris being easier to pronounce. Further, his grandfather's surname was Mendle and when his father (Kalman Harris) married he called himself Harrishovitz. Hyman says he was born in Kovno in June 1874. Kalman's wife is named as Sarah Rebecca, (known by some in the family as Sorah Rivka). Kalman's other children are: Leah, Annie, Yetta, Abraham, Simon all born in Russia, Yetta having "Sibau" (?) written in pencil on her 1911 census return after Russia as place of birth.

Have no idea how to go about starting research in Lithuania, so any ideas / tips gratefully received! Have done a look up on family and they appear to have some Kovno / Kaunas records but I have no idea if these records are in Hebrew or Russian or if they are translated or if it is worth taking a look at them? Has anyone found someone to undertake research in Lithuania on their behalf?
