I am researching Watts family in Wayne Co. Have traced back to Ambrose Watts listed in 1850 census. Believe Ambrose Watts came from Tazewell Virginia, but haven't been able to trace any further back. My family descended from Ambrose, settled in Wayne Co., later moved to Huntington WV. I would appreciated any information available. Thanks.

Is this the Ambrose Watts that married Jane Swearingen? If so I am also researching this family. According to info I have Ambrose and Jane had the following children:

1. Daniel Jackson Watts

m. Margaret "Peggy" Adkins & had the following:

1. Russell Watts

2. Kelley Watts

3. Everette Watts

4. Vienna Watts

5. Nanny (Nancy?) Watts

6. Eliza Ann Watts

7. Daniel Jackson Watts, Jr.

m. Polley _________

This is my line of Watts but I am still researching to prove my info. According to my family stories, all the men in the Watts were named Daniel Jackson. I believe that Daniel Jackson Watts, Jr. and Polley ______ had eleven children. One of them was my great grandfather Jackson Watts. I have not found the birth info on Jackson Watts, but I do know for a fact he is my G Grandfather. I think his name was really Daniel Jackson also, but went by Jackson. I have a photo of his headstone, he is buried in Wayne Co. in the Watson Cemetery. He married Mary Sweeney (Swiney). Jackson Watts and Mary Sweeney Watts had 12 or 13 kids. One of which was my grandfather Alvin F. Watts.

8. Purlina Watts

9. Jesse Watts
2. John H. Watts
3. Burwell Watts
4. Leonard Watts
5. Washington Watts
6. Marion Watts

Let me know if this is the same family. I also have a Ferguson Family Book which has Ferguson/Watts info on my family as well. Both my mother's grandmothers were Ferguson and her father was a Watts.

Yes, this is the same family. My father has verified our family line back to Ambrose Watts & Jane Swearengen, in Wayne Co. (W)VA. As you know, the Ferguson family plays a prominent role in the family history also, Samuel Ferguson donated the land for the courthouse to be built in Tazewell County, VA. Our family line is as follows: Ambrose Watts & Jane Swearengen > John Hansford Watts (son) married Nancy Osburn 12-23-1841 in Cabell Co. VA (Nancy Osburn's mother was Cynthia Ferguson, granddaughter of Samuel Ferguson) > Harrison Watts > Charles Maynard Watts > Jennings B. Watts > Donald G. Watts > Jennings R. Watts (myself). Another researcher contacted me with information that George Washington Watts was also a son of Ambrose Watts. Please e-mail me at Jazzman0514@msn.com for further information.

I have in my records a Daniel Jackson Watts married Margaret (Polly Ann) Adkins on August 22, 1867 in Wayne County, WV. This information was found in the Wayne County VA/WV Marriages 1853 - 1900 book- page 177. It states that Daniel was 20 at the time of marriage and his parents were:
Daniel Watts and Peggy Adkins. It states that Polly Ann was 17 at the time of marriage and that her parents were:
John L. Adkins and Nancy ?

I also have a Purlina Watts b. 1859 who married Patrick Hughes Napier that I am trying to find out who her parents were. You listed a Purlina, who was your Purlina's parents again?

Hope this helped in some way. Please let me know about your Purlina. Thanks.!!!

I am helping a young lady who knows nothing of her father's family line. Parents were divorced and she was taken by the mother. Her father was Homer Watts, whose father was Chapman Watts. She only had the mother & father's names off the death certificate. I have been gathering information and would love to compare so that I know what I'm giving her is true and accurate; also I am looking for their connection to the Civil War for her. Would appreciate any help. Ginny in florida VBasford@aol.com

Ginny: Came across your query this evening and decided to see if I could be of some assistance. There is a WATTS family history sectionl in PIONEER SETTLERS OF WAYNE COUNTY (W) (VA) by Evelyn Booth Massie-1999.It does not contain too much information on HOMER and CHAPMAN but a search of census records does provide connection.
