I have been searching madly for my grandfather's cousin, Pearson Dunham and his son, Clayton Dunham. All residents of Massachusetts. My grandfather, Charles Herbert Dunham was b. St.John, NB and I assume Pearson was also. I know nothing about Pearson, the father, except that he died in a Masonic Home in MASS and I also know that Clayton Dunham's wife's name was Julie. Any help?

Sorry it has taken so long to reply, my computer has been down for a while. I am not sure if same but this family has many closets with numerous passages. This Clayton was really an Estes but his father Herbert's mother took on Dunham to save face due to an divorse. So Herbert Dunham (Estes) son is Clayton Dunham who kept his last name and didn't change it. I am trying to find out who was the step-father "Dunham" -- perhaps there is a connection??? And perhaps it will lead me to more information on the grandmother who was Alpha (Alva) Kearney. The mother went by many names but maiden name was Russell. I only have a few of her married names (Dunham,Landis,Danner).

Thanks for your message. Believe I should have been more specific re time-frame. The father, Pearson, would have been about my g'father's age - b. 1870's and probably in St. John, New Brunswick. So, son, Clayton might have been b. (c)1897 and probably in Massachusetts since this family lived in Manchester and in Malden, MA in the '20's. Pearson was a printer and he died in 1959. Evidently Clayton, the son, died before his dad, since he is not mentioned in the obit. But Clayton's wife, Julie, is listed. Are we in the same ballpark here? This little bit of info doesn't sound like YOUR Clayton (Estes) Dunham, does it? Will be glad to have anything that might connect YOUR Clayton and MINE!

Could Your grandfather have been Jacob Wm. DUNHAM (7 Feb. 1863, Kempton, Tipton, IN - 13 Aug. 1936, Wichita, Sedgwick, KS) who m. 1 Mar. 1890, Mary Ann KEARNEY, b. 19 Sep. 1869, Tipton Co., IN? That family is on RootsWeb Family Trees. Jacob Wm. was son of Jacob Mackey DUNHAM, b. 7 May 1824, Berkeley Co., VA [now WV], & Louisa Eliza STROUP, b. 8 Oct. 1837, Madison Co., OH. David DUNHAM (DelcyD) has traced that line back to the SINGLETARY who took the name DUNHAM.

FamilySearch database of the 1880 Census, Mt. Pleasant, Labette, KS:

DUNHAM, Jacob M., 55, VA VA PA; Louiza 41, OH OH VA; ch. b. IN:
Jacob W., 17; Joseph, 14; Samuel, 9; Jeptha, 22; dau-in-law Marthy A., 23, OH IRE OH.
[Jeptha is listed as single, but he may have been married to Marthy. ]

Could you name Earl's eight brothers and sisters again? David only lists Earl and six siblings. Were there two Franks?

There were 31 DUNHAM listings for 1930, Wichita, including Jacob W. & Mary A.

Was your Earl the one of Oklahoma Co., OK, in 1930? The database has Earl DUNHAM, b. ca. 1904; Ella, 1907; Don, 1925; & Betty, 1929.

DAVIS ALSO HAS MY MOTHER LISTED AS VIOLET, BUT MY MOM'S MAIDEN NAME WAS BONNIE MILDRED ROBERTS?

Jacob Wm. DUNHAM (1863 - 1936)?

Can you make other additions or corrections?

RootsWeb Family Trees has

Jacob William DUNHAM (7 Feb. 1863, Kempton, Tipton, IN - 13 Aug. 1936, Wichita, Sedgwick, KS) m. 1 Mar. 1890 {1889?}, Mary Ann KEARNEY, b. 19 Sep. 1869, IN. They had in Kansas

Hattie Zoe, b. 2 Dec. 1890
Mabel Cleo, b. 11 Feb. 1892
Frank Virgil, b. 22 May 1893
Ralph Waldo Emerson, b. 24 Dec. 1895
Christobel Beatrice, b. 22 Je. 1897
Pearl Marie, b. 22 Mar. 1899
Earl Dewey, b. 22 Feb. 1900.

Social Security Death Index indicates that some of the above are not exactly correct. Could each birth be a year off?
Frank DUNHAM (22 May 1892 - Jan. 1971) last res. El Dorado, Butler, KS.
Ralph DUNHAM (25 Dec. 1894 - Oct. 1970) lr. Wichita, Sedgwick, KS.
Earl DUNHAM (22 Feb. 1899 - Jan. 1980) lr. Wichita.
Mabel WHITNEY (11 Feb. 1891 - Apr. 1977) lr. Burlington, Coffee, KS.

If your father was 45 when you were born, perhaps Bonnie Mildred ROBERTS was his second wife. When and where were they married? Violet was supposedly mother of Earl in 1922. Or do you think Violet married a different Earl?
