Ardens in Lancashire

I am the son of Norman Arden b. Salford (Lancs) in 1916.
He was the son of David Arden b. 1893 in Salford and Ethel Clay.
David was the son of William Arden b. Manchester (Lancs) in 1863 and Elizabeth Cooper b. Manchester (lancs) in 1863. William married Elizabeth in 1884 in Manchester.
William was the son of George b. Worsley (Lancs) 1827 and Alice b. Worsley in 1832.
George was a coal merchant. As well as William George and Alice's other kids were Alice, George, Joseph and Sarah Martha.
In 1881, George and his family were living in Slater St Manchester.
Has anyone please got anything that might help me to find out where George originally came from. I have a hunch that these Ardens originated in Cheshire/North Staffs (Sandbach/Wem/Warmington). Thanks

I too am looking for my Grandmothers line who came from Lancashire (her name was Margaret) her eldest sister was Mary Arden a teacher their fathers name was William Arden and the Mothers name Elizabeth. The other names that I can link as brothers and sisters are Hugh, Bella (could be Isabella) James, and Anne but from my fathers notes it would appear if he is correct their were 11 children.

My uncle tells me that Rafael Sabatini married one of my Grandmothers aunts. Also the name of Sir William Barker seems to be linked to one of my Grans sisters and also a PJ Prescot.

perhaps if anyone else is reading this they could help also.
many thanks
Lesley

I came to your posting because I was looking at Ardens from Sandbach, Cheshire. Your post prompted me to look for Rafael Sabatini, and I found him with his mother in the 1901 census.
I also found a website devoted to him, www.rafaelsabatini.com, which advised that in 1905 Rafael Sabatini "married Ruth Goad Dixon, one of the daughters of the well-to-do Liverpool paper merchant Lancelot Steele Dixon". "At the age of 60 Rafael remarried in 1935. He married his former sister-in-law, Christine Dixon, a woman who had been married to Ruth's brother. {She was a} sculptor of considerable talent".
I suppose it is a cooincidence, but the family I am researching, Philip and Mary Arden of Sandbach, named their second child George Steele Arden in 1825. I wonder what the Steele connection is?

The recent replies to your message have made me look again at the tree I'm researching. I've already posted a message about John Arden, but I wonder if he's related to your George and Alice Arden. John was born in 1825 in Worsley, Lancs. His father was John Arden and I believe his mother may have been Ann. Do you know any more about the family?
regards
Sue

John was George's (b. 1827) older brother. John was a witness at Georges wedding. Their father was Thomas b. Worsley 1796.

I am sure the Worsley/Wardley Ardens were all related. What is your interest? If you are an Arden perhaps we could exchange data.
