I am a Kendzior from Chicago. My Father was Stanley Joseph,,he had 2 brothers John and Walter, and 2 sisters, Rose and Josephine. His parents were Joseph and Eva (Evelyn). They came here from Poland. My dad was born in 19 19 and he was the baby of the 5 kids. They all lived in Chicago. If you are a part of this family, please get in touch.

My Grandpa's name was John and he married Mary Walker. They lived in Hartford. They had three sons Robert(my dad), Bill, and Thomas. The thing is I know of him having brothers but not sisters.
I have found this site thru my daughter and doing homework. I am so exited.
Answer this they came from poland, but were they adopted? If you answer yes than we have the right people.

My fathers name was Joseph Kendzior and he too was born in Chicago in 1917. Like your grandfather, my grandfathers name was Joseph (Josef) and had immigrated from Poland. Members of my family have done a lot of geneological work on the Kendzior name which may be of help to you as you do the same.

Hi Russell,
I just found my wife's grandfather Petri Kendzior in the 1920 Census Douglas County Omaha Ne. Do you know the origin of the name Kendzior, at some point after 1920 they changed their name to Kanger.

The name Knedzior in Polis means "curly hair". Most of the Kendziors imigrated from Southern Poland between 1890 and 1920, mostly because they lost their farms to their landlords. My grandfather immigrated from Galacia which at the time was part of Austria. If you go to you will find an entry for a Pietro Kendzior who at the age of 24, immigrated to the US from Tarnow Poland in 1899. Good luck on your search!

Russell, thanks for the reply and the information. Our Petri Kendzior show that he also was from Galicia according to the census record. The 1920 census show he was 40 years of age and imigrated in 1896. Have you encountered name change to Kanger. It seems that some Kendzior's have changed their names to Kanger?

I know of no other Kendzior to have changed their name to Kangor, but during the turn of the century many eastern Eurpoeans who sought to "Americanize" their identities did change their names. Of those Kendzior's that immigrated from Galacia, most of them (including my grangfather) came from the town of Swiecany. You may find the same trail exiswts for your ancestor. Because of the young age that your grandfather immigrated (approx. 16) chances are, he either came accross with a relative or had one waiting in the US for him. I suggest that you look for other Kendzior's or Kangers that were in the same town during the 1920 census. You may also want to look at the 1910 census. Chances are you will find him living with a relative. Good luck!

I am interested in the information you have been posting about your Petri Kendzior. My ancestor was Peter Kendzior who lived in Douglas County, Omaha. He was married to a Marie Pzowowski (don't know if this spelling is correct). They had a son Valentine (William) and other children. Could these be the same?
