Hello, I am looking for any information I can get on my history. My origin is the city of Managua in the country of Nicaragua. I was brought to the United States at the age of 4. I was born in 1972. All close family members are deceased. I also have no record of my birth certificate. My full name is Domingo Rafael Gomez Guevara Bermudez Sanchaze and in my country everybody takes the mothers last name. Any one that can help me understand a little more about my background, culture, or family origin please email me. Thank-you and good luck to all.

According to Ernie Guevara from the Phillipines. The name Guevara can be found as early as 1286A.D.)In northern Spain,in the kingdom of the Navarros.A certain Count,Vela de Guevara, prince of the Navarros is mentioned. The name has its' orgin amongst the Basque. But is also linked to the Sefarditas"the Jews of Spain or Sefarad. The root of the name in its' original version "Guebara"is Ebar, which means a fern in Basque.Sefardi or not the name is associated with the nobility of Hispania. The Phillipino, conection to the name, can possibily be found inthe autos de fe of the Spanish Inquisition that continued in Mexico City.A certain Pedro de Guebara, fled Mexico to the Phillipine in 1821,for being a Judiozante. When he returned he was captured and relaxed in effigy"Relajado en estatua"which is the fancy term"BURNED AT THE STAKE"So anyone with this last name, originating in Mexico, like me.Can possibly have links to the Jews of Iberia and to his holiness Count, Vela de Guebara. Does anyone have info.on a certain Marquez de Urquijo. This Iberian Blue blood was a distant great grand uncle,he married my great grand aunt Baroness,Maria de Carmen de Federico. The Federico name is Itlian. But since Sefarad/Espania was part of the Roman empire,it balances out.My email is AlvaroGuevara@webtv.net if you have any info on the Guevara's other than Che,and the Marquis de Urquijo.Key in Ernie Guevara on your search, and go to the family crest etc.for anyone who is interested. And if you want to check my site go to (www.AnaGabrielaGuevara.com) Asta la Pasta, Alvaro Guevara y Vazquez p.s.the origin version of my name was Veles ladron de Guevara.

Guevara's Families in Puerto Rico

Up to my knowledge the Guevara's family came to Puerto Rico, late in the 19th century. I have knowledge that they established in two different places: Aibonito, Puerto Rico and in Isabela Puerto Rico.

I'm the descendant of Genara Guevara Texidor, daughter of Carlos Guevara Santini and Adelaida Texidor Suárez. Her father, Carlos Guevara was the son of Agustín Guevara and Genara Santini Bonilla. They used to live in Aibonito, Puerto Rico.

My grandfather nieces and nephews last names known by me were a combination of: Guevara Castañeira; Guevara Marrero; Guevara Aponte; and Guevara Texidor which were my mothers family.

Josefina Guevara Castañeia was an excellent poet and novelist. She wrote: Del Yunque a los Andes; Los Encandenados and a lot of poems which were recited and recorded by Actor Ray Francisco Quiñones.

As I know the family came through Venezuela from Barcelona. Thus, the origins are from Barcelona. Josefina Guevara Castañeira gave me copy of my great grandfather and mother: Agustín Guevara and Genara Santini. I still have the pictures.

I also have a familiy tree from the roots of Agustín Guevara.

Whether we have the same origins as the Guevara's families from Mexico, I do not know.

I hope that this information be helpful in getting more information from members of my family ancestors.
