Do you know the nationality of the Devers background that you search for? My mothers maiden name was Devers, I do know a little of the history. I beleive when my grandfather came over from Europe they added an 's' to Dever, is there any chance of that with you as well? Please let me know.

John Defers voluntarily enlisted in the Army of USA, for a period of five years, on 3rd June, 1870 in New York City. He was born in County Clare, Ireland and was aged 23. His occupation was musician and was signed on as a Regimental Band Musician. He had blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion and was five feet three inches high. His post was 8th Cavalry Band, Fort Union, New Mexico. The enlistment form shois signature following a statement tha he has 'neither wife nor child". He deserted 14 March 1871, was apprhended next day and dishonourably discharged 21 April 1871. It is possible that he left my g.g.grandmother in England. I would like to make the connection, if there is one. I have a letter he wrote describing his journey from London to New Mexico and have seen a copy of his service record. I hope someone can help or that this helps you.

You did not mention the location of your Devers but I am a Devers' descendent and have researched not only my family line but also the origin of the last name.

My Devers were originally French and while it is impossible to confirm, I suspect they Huegenots - Protestants who left France in the 1500-1600 time frame to escape religious persecution. They first went to Canada but then to Virginia, Kentucky and later, in the 1850's, settled in NW Missouri. There are Devers sprinkled all throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri and there are also some in Virginia, as well as other places but these are the primary locations they are in.

The original name was DeVore but later, in Virginia, most became DeViers and then Devers. From what I understand, it was very common for the French to change their last name and this often involved adding an "s" to the end of the name.

The Devers family was very involved in the Civil War (Confederate) side and I have some fascinating information if this is of interest to you or if you think there could be a connection with our families.

I have several trees of branches of the family and if you are able to tell me where your mother's family is from and some of the names, I may just have some information for you.

I am also a Devers descendent and am not familiar with the first names you gave. I have researched my own family extensively and have the trees of several branches of the family. If you can tell me where your family is from and a little information on the states they have lived in the past, I might be able to help you.

Accordiing to a marriage license I have from Wood Ct, WV, Frances married James William Trader on 13-Feb-1902. She was 19 yrs old. Her father's name was William. I have a 1920 census from MI that says they were in Holt, Mi. at that time. Her brother Harold was living with them. She and JW were divorced after that. I have dates bd for him but can't find anything for her. I did learn recently that she was 45 yrs old when she died, so I think that would have been about l934. They had a son Arthur. He was married in 1924 to my mother but they were divorced in 1930. That topic wasn't open to discussion. I would so like to find where Frances was laid to rest and any other information I can find. Arthur had 5 children with his second wife but we didn't meet them until just a few years ago.

I don't have any information on Devers in PA. My Devers were from Kentucky and NW Missouri and I have lots of information on them but don't think mine ever lived there.

I would appreciate any information about the Devers you would care to send. My only information is that Frances Bell Devers married James William Trader, in Wood Ct.WV, in 1902 Feb. Her Father's name was William. She was 19yrs.old. She was buried in MI. but I don't know where when she was some where around 45 yrs. old. She had a younger brother, Harold, that was in Mi with them.
