If your Alfred is the one who died in 1902 in Sydney, son of Alfred & Maria (reg 7917), then there is a matching birth for him in 1852 to these same parents (see This looks like his death notice:

STEEL. - February 19, at the residence of her grandmother, 340, Macquarie-street South, Elsie Arline, dearly loved daughter of Alfred and Jennie Steel, aged 13 months.

Alfred's eldest son Alfred Geo was a conductor for the Conservatorium of Music and headmaster of the Conservatorium High School. He died of double pneumonia and pleurisy in Feb 1929.

The family are all buried at Rookwood (Anglican & General).
