I loked through "Ken-A-Big"...the story of Kanabec County, which has really great info about how the area was settled, but somewhat limitedinfo about the early settlers. Out of all your names, the only one I found referencce to was a Mr. Wilcox, possibly a relation. ?? It mentioned that this Mr. Wilcox owned 40 acres of marsh lands north of Pennington Lake in the 1870's, and attempted to develop a cranberry marsh there. After spending much time and money, he became disgusted with the whole project and abandoned his enterprise. Considering there were no rail ways through this area at that time, I'm not sure what he planned to do if his crops had succeeded:) Hope this is of interest to you:)
Take care!

Betty-
Thank You for your reply to my queery reguarding Rowley, Wilcox, names in Kanabec County. Do you know if any of the current Rowley's are decendants of those I listed previously. Their ancestors would have come from Michigan (Hillsdale County) or perhaps in the Ohio county just south of there (Williams Co. OH)? Other members of the family lived in the Greensprings OH area near Freemont OH.

Hi-
How may I help you? I have much information on Edwin Wilcox and Terasa (Aunt Tess) Scott Wilcox. Treasa Scott Wilcox is the twin sister to my husbands great-grandmother. My file on ancestry has photos as well. Here is the vitals I have on Edwin and Tess:
Edwin L. Wilcox b. May 1845 in Michigan (most likely in Wright Township Hillsdale County, MI) He died September 7th 1924 in Mora, Kenabeck County, Minnesota. He married Emily Treasa Scott in Hillsadale county were many other members of the extended family were living. She was born November 5, 1856 in Sandusky County OH and died Jan 12, 1845 in Mora, Minnesota. She was the daughter of William Washington Scott b. 1821 unknown, and died 1864 in Sandusky co OH, from a sickness he developed in the Civil War. Her mother was Susan Brubaker born 1820 and died 1886 both in Sandusky/Senaca County Ohio. The family lived in and around Green Springs. The town of Green Springs is literately divided by the county line. Tess was one of eight girls that lived to adulthood. Several other children including a brother are buried in Ludwig Cemetery. Tess and Edwin had no children of their own, but adopted two children of one of her sisters. Her home seemed to be where kids went to live when they were not with their parent. My mother-in-law's oldest sister lived with "Aunt Tess" and stayed in MN when the rest of the family moved to Detroit Michigan during the depression. Hope this helps. You can always go on ancestry and ask for permission to view my family tree "Krieg" family. The Brubaker line goes way back. It is a very large family. Other family names in MN, are Rowley, and Martin. Emma Scott Martin is her twin. She is burried in Kenebeck MN. at Mora as well as her husband Morris Martin.

Surnames: Wilcox - Scott.
Thank you for answering.
I have some different information about Edwin's marriage. Did Emily have a sister in
Iowa? Esther!
I have Edwin was married in Afton Twp. town of Elma , Howard Co. Iowa,
28 Feb. 1882, (Terressa)
I have a first marriage for him also.
I will try to see your family tree on ancestry. I am interested in seeing the pictures
Was Edwin a farmer? Do you have obituaries for them?
A note has - farmers in Elma stacked their rocks like art.
Some information I received lately, on Edwin's brother Stephen was, Stephen and a baby son died in Mi. in 1883, of a disease that was in the area at that time. Do you know what the disease was?
Thanks again. I appreciate your information.

Hello again-
I will try and answer some of your questions. Yes, to the sister Ester Jane married John W.Manning

Ester Jane Scott-born September 1846 and died February 27, 1910 in Sicily, Gage County, Nebraska. married John W. Manning born 1830 and died 1899. They had 4 children. My records show Ester Jane as living in Nebraska not MN so can not help you there. I have an old family scrap book I will have to dig it out and see if there is an obituary. Tess raised the children of her niece Susan Rowley (another sister was Sarah Melisa Scott that married John W. Rowley lived in Fulton Co. Ohio, and Hillsdale County Michigan) Susan Rowley Mcihargey had two children when she died young. What is your source for Edwinn's and Terressa marriage? Emma ...Tess's twin and husband Morris Martin moved and lived in several locations. He worked for the rail road. Was manager or owned several grain elevator business. The "girls" traveled and visited each other on many occasions. It has amazed me how much they traveled. The other sisters are:
Carrie Scott married Langdon Proctor Smith and lived in California. Wethea Scott m. James McIntire and lived in Green Springs OH. Her younger sister Nancy L. Scott married James McIntires son George McIntire. they all stayed in the Sandusky/Seneca County area of Ohio.
Mary F. Scott married Johnathan C. Cornell they had a daughter Cora. Mary lived in Fulton Co Ohio. I will look for your request.
