I'm am looking for the parents of a James Petticrew (b. abt 1793 in VA) He was father of David Maynard Petticrew (b. abt 1840-1842 VA), who married Sarah Frances Wade (b. abt 1841-1844 VA). David and Sarah had William O. (Otway or Otoway) Petticrew (b. abt 1868 VA). William O. married Blanche A. David Maynard and Sarah had another son named David Maynard Petticrew (b. abt 1875) but he still was living unmarried in VA in 1930. William O. and Blanche had William Kenneth Petticrew (26 Feb, 1900, Clifton Forge, VA - 16 Jun, 1970, Danville, Virginia). William Kenneth married Dewey Mary Smith.

I had Petticrew ancestors who arrived in Rockbridge County, VA (where Clifton Forge is) from Hanover, PA in 1794 and 1795 but began moving to Ohio in 1806, followed by more of the descendants of brothers, James Petticrew (b. 1723, perhaps in Scotland; d. 1799 in Rockbridge Co., VA) and David Petticrew (b. 1726, perhaps in Scotland; d. 1784 in Hanover, PA) and David's son, my ancestor, John Finley Petticrew (b. 1758 in Ireland, according to his Revolutionary War pension application), who eventually moved his clan to Michigan around 1830. Some Petticrews, I believe, remained in Rockbridge Co., VA, perhaps in Lexington.

Please post information if you can connect my John Finley Petticrew (b. 1758, Ireland) or others in the line of the brothers James and David who arrived in Rockbridge Co. from Hanover, PA (Lancaster Co., now Dauphin Co.) with the above described James Petticrew (b. abt. 1793, VA) and his son, David Maynard Petticrew (b. abt. 1840), who married Sarah Wade in VA.

Thank you.

My name is Gary Petticrew and I am very interested in information on the Petticrews and Wades in Virginia. My g-g-grandfather, James Petticrew, Sr. is the brother of John Finley Petticrew. My mother's father was Robert A. Wead (Wade, Waid, Weed, etc. in early census records). It may only be a coincedence but the names Sarah and Francis are not uncommon in the early 1800s Wead family. I have tried for a long time to sort out the Petticrews in Rockbridge County, Virginia with some success, but there are dangling Petticrew ancestor connections there that I have not been able to substantiate. I would be happy to share with you what I have and perhaps we can work together to firmly establish Petticrew family relationships in Virginia.
