James and Susan Greer were buying/selling property in Newberry Co., SC, between 1830 and 1840. I need any information I can get on this couple. James evidently died between 1838 and 1840, as their last child was born about 1839, and Susan appears alone with her children in the 1840 Newberry census. James and Susan's oldest daughter, Temperance Greer, married B.E. Mason who died in the WBTS.

James also sold some property evidently co-owned with Joseph Greer. Who was Joseph Greer?

Teresa,
Are you still at this email address? I talked with Grier Ballenger, who I think is a cousin of yours, and I am trying to do some research on your James Madison GREER and his wife Susan. I wanted to see if you have had any luck in your search recently. Thanks so much! You can write me at this website or at the addr above PringleFamilyofSC1@yahoo.com or dolores.pringle@sc.rr.com I hope this reaches you!

Thought I would post a bit of info on this even though I do not have much to share. James was a brother o the Joseph GREER that he owned property with. James was apparently James Madison GREER, son of Robert GREER and Anna Isabella KILGORE GREER. He was a younger son, born abt 1809. His children with Susan were Temperance, John, Robert Presley, Rachael, and Sarah Kizer. Some of this family, including Susan, the mother, were buried at Zoar Church in the Greer, SC, area. I believe James died circa 1859.
Any info on this would be a great help! Thanks!
Thank you!

My g/g/grandmother Mary Glenn was a Greer. Her parents were James Mannon and Jane Tarver Greer. They were from the Greenville/Spartanburg county area. Is James Mannon in your line by chance?

"1770 - Joseph Greer is born in South Carolina according to the census of his son, Joseph Greer in the 1880 census in Chambers Co, AL. We are uncertain of the parents of Joseph Greer but the research of Janice Craft seems to point to the Joseph Greer Sr. family of Laurens Co, S. C. His father in turn may have been John Greer who immigrated in 1764. The family apparently lived on and worked over 200 acres on Duncan Creek of the Enoree River. The Enoree River is the border between Laurens on the south and Spartanburg and Union Counties on the north. The Enoree river flows almost due east rather parallel with Duncan Creek finally joining the Enoree River at the Newberry and Union county border."
