It's likely a coincidence, but my great grandfather, Abram Blazier, travelled to California with an older brother in 1859. Abram was working at Kelsey city in the early 1860's when he met my great grandmother. I understand from family lore that he travelled to California with an older brother bu I have no information about that brother. Still, Blazier is an uncomon name and Kelsey City is in Lake County, adjacent Sonoma. The ages and dates could make Joseph a nephew of Abram.

Have you looked for a birth record in CA?

Hi Jerry,
Sorry I can't be of much help. I obtained this record from the Sonoma County Death Records compiled by the Sonoma County Historical Society. I usually post information of people as I come across it. I am in no relation to this famly and don't do any other follow-up unless requested.

My birth name is also Powell. My father was from Youngstown, Ohio. Just thought I would throw it out there.

The death record may be for Joseph Blasier born 1862 in Wisconsin. He was the son of Benjamin Blasier and Mary Trudell. His mother died April 1864. Benjamin served in the Civil War and married Caroline Wright 4 July 1874 then after her death married her sister Etta Wright 22 August 1888.Benjamin's father was Abraham Blasier born about 1812 in New York State near Herkimer.Benjamin had a younger brother also named Abraham born in 1850. Blazier and Blasier were commonly recorded as varient spellings. Does this fit anyones lines.

A Blazier family settled in Kewaunee County, WI in 1856. Kewaunee County was a frontier wilderness then with only Indian Trails.

An article from the Kewaunee Enterprise Fri. Nov. 5, 1909 states: "At that time there were but three families living within the present bounds of Pierce Town - James Pierce and family[from Oneida Co. NY], Henry Borgman, and Abraham Blazier[from Oneida Co. NY], a hunter and trapper, with his five sons, John, Benjamin, Abram, Levi and Henry: lived upon what is now known as the Mashek place at Blazier's Creek."

Further research indicates other children including a daughter Alvira/Alvina/Almira Blasier b. 1836/40 NY living in Pierce Town Kewaunee Co. WI in 1870 Census with Henry Blasier age 13 b. WI and Joseph age 8 b. WI.

This Joseph Blasier may be the one referred to, though I do not know for sure. Hope it helps. If I can be of further help, let me know

Thankyou for the information. I am looking for the date of death of Abraham Blasier. It appears from the 1870 census of Kewaunee Wisconsin and subsequent sale of property by his wife that he died prior to 1870. Do you know of any records or small cemetaries in the region of the Mashek place that may contain the remains of Abraham? Also Abrahams wife Fanny (or Anna) may have been a medicine woman;she died 30 April 1879 at Foscoro, Kewaunee Co. Abraham has four daughters: Alvira who married Peter LeBarge, Winny, Martha who married John Hanson, and Henrietta who married Peter Stephany.

I don't know when or where Abraham died or is buried - could have been Kewaunee or Door Co. I couldn't find any death/burial records here in Kewaunee Co., but at that time record keeping was in its infancy, so he could have died and is buried somewhere here in Kewaunee County - maybe at the homestead which is now farmland (unmarked).

Did find him listed in 1860 Census in Kewaunee County under the name of Abe Blazin. Listed family includes:
Abe Blazin age 48
Marston Blazin age 46
Benj Blazin age 22
Marston Blazin age 15
Wm. Blazin age 13
Levi Blazin age 11

The Marston name is confusing. Don't know who that is. Do you?

Text: Found dead. The Ahnapee Record contains the following particular s of the sudden death of Mrs. Blasier, mother of Benj. and Abraham Blasier, of this place:
Mrs. Anna Blasier, an old lady about 70 years of age, was found deat o n the floor of her residence at Foscoro last Tuesday evening about 6 o'clock. Her soudden deat excited the suspician of some neighbors and Justice Yates was notified on the following day with a request to summon a jury and hold an inquest on the remains. He, in company with Dr. Bartran and some others of this place, proceeded to the place yesterday, and after an examination of the body it was concluded that her death was caused by a fir of apoplexy, which disease it is said she was troubled with. Mrs. Blasier lived all alone in a small house in Foscoro, but was daily visited by her son or daughter. In the morning on Tuesday se was seen out doors by her son who passed by in company of another man to their work, and on their return at night the son stepped in to see how she was when she was discovered layong upon the floor cold and dead. The two men placed her remains on the bed and summoned others to the scene above stated. Deceased was an old resident of this county, having settled in the woods between here and Kewaunee over twenty-five years ago. Title: Algoma Newspaper Obituaries 1873 - 1922

The last word cannot be made out. This must be a picture of the Joseph that was murdered in California. I often thought that he may be the child of Benjamin Blasier (another brother of my Great Grandfather Henry George) and his with Marie Trudell. She died leaving a 1 yr old son behind. I believe that son's name was Joseph.
If you have any further information regarding this or any information on the Blasiers please write me. my email is - I live in Green Bay, WIsconsin
