Obituary from unnamed newspaper “Ira E. Weaver, age 40, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Weaver of this city, who had lived at Bucklin for some years and farmed near Hardesty, Oklahoma, perished in a snow storm in western New Mexico near Spur Lake, recently. Mr. Weaver with a young man companion, Elmer Wade, went hunting the day before Thanksgiving. They were caught in the storm only about a mile and a half from home and their bodies were not found until December 8. Due to the fact that the roads in that section were blocked with snow, relatives here were unable to go for the funeral.
“A letter received yesterday from Mr. Weaver’s wife states that the tragedy occurred when Mr. Weaver’s ankle gave way as he was returning home from the hunting trip. The young man who was with him built a shelter for him by a log and then tried to find his way home, but couldn’t in the storm and went back and fell exhausted by Mr. Weaver. ‘Now they sleep side by side,” the letter states. ‘We laid Ira away yesterday, December 12, in the cemetery by the schoolhouse on a ridge among the pine trees he loved so well. Everything that could be done was done and everyone was good and kind.’
“Mr. Weaver leaves his wife, who is a daughter of Hiram Bowles, well known farmer near Hardestry, three sons, a brother, W.H. Weaver, who lives in south Liberal, and a sister, Mrs. Leonard Pittman of this city.
“Mr. Weaver and his companion were found in a gorge where the snow was very deep. The young man had stood his gun against a tree higher up and the snow melted away from it or the two bodies would probably have not been found until spring.”

The Spur Lake Basin is north of Luna, NM. Though I'm not familiar with any cemeteries in that area, my in-laws may know where you could find these graves. I will ask next time I see them, and pass on any information I can, to you.
