I have done an extensive study on the BEAN families of Jackson County, AL and I have collected a wealth of information on them. Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" BEAN married John Wilson GRIDER on November 8, 1885. Mollie was the daughter of Eli Brantsford and Mary Jane (ARNOLD) BEAN. Eli was the son of James Madison and Hollie Virginia "Jane" (SWEARINGEN) BEAN Sr. James and Hollie were my great great grandparents. Eli and Mary Jane BEAN were my great great great uncle and aunt. I don't have any dates of birth or death on John and Mollie GRIDER, nor do I have names and dates of birth and death of any children they had. Apparently John died or they divorced? and Mollie married Stephen PROCTOR on September 1, 1892. Mollie and Stephen had 4 children, I have names and dates on their children. Apparently they divorced or Stephen died, because on February 10, 1890 Mollie married Charlie Edward SANDERS. Charlies life ended in a terrible tradgedy. The story is that one day while Charlie was out working on the farm, Mollie got into an argument with her aunt (either Jane Jacks, or Mary L. Roberts), whichever one was married to John Bender BEAN at the time. John was the brother of Wli and uncle of Molie. Anyway, the two women fought all day long over some geese in the front yard, apparently the geese were making a lot of noise all day. When Charlie and Jaohn came home from working, the ladies told their husbands of the problem and the husbands got into a fight, which resuled in John shooting Charlie. Charlie died from his wounds. Unfortunately Mollie was pregnant with hers and Charlies only child, which was born about a month after the shooting.

Please contact me so we can trade information. Let me know what you want from me. The GRIDERS and BEANS inner-married several different time during the 1800's. Do you know if the GRIDERS came from TN, if so where about's.

the brother of Isaac & James Grider, b. in Watson Cem. in
Arlington, TX. I researched them, & found their parents were
John Blair & Frances Matthews. This Isaac Grider m. a Dora
Arnold, dau of Martha Arnold by her 1st marriage.Martha's 2
husband was my husbands G.Grandfather James F. McCoy.
They all lived in Jackson Co.AL. Isaac & Dora had a son, H.
Travis Grider who m. my husband's G.Aunt, Lenora Bellamy.
I was interested in seeing the name of Mary Jane Arnold in
your reply. Do you know anything abt Arnolds. I am trying to
find out what our Marthas' maiden name was, & thought you

Surnames: Grider, Bean, Pippin, Stewart, Arnold
James Grider, son of John Blair Grider and Frances Matthews, was born on December 9, 1841 in Jackson County, Alabama, and died January 27, 1893 in Arlington, Tarrant County, Texas. He is buried in the Watson Cemetery in Tarrant County.

He married two times:

The first marriage was to Nancy Bean Pippin on February 21, 1861 in Franklin County, Tennessee. Nancy Bean was born in 1829, the daughter of James Madison and Holly Swearingen Bean of Jackson County, Alabama. Her first marriage occurred about 1847. At the time of her marriage to James Grider, she had five young children, all under the age of thirteen, from her marriage to William Pippin (others say his first name was "James," and he may have been named William "James" Pippin, but the 1850 census has only the name William). William Pippin died between 1857 and 1860, presumably in Franklin County, Tennessee.

One child was born to James Grider and Nancy Bean Pippin: John "Cap" Wilson Grider, born in February 1862 in Jackson County, Alabama.

Nancy Bean Pippin Grider died at some time between the birth of her son "Cap" Grider in February 1862 and November 1, 1863 when James Grider married a second time. The settlement records of her father's estate in 1866 confirm that she was deceased and had five surviving children.

On November 1, 1863, James Grider married Nancy Jane Summers in Jackson County, Alabama. She was born in December 1840 and died in 1927 in Altus, Jackson County, Oklahoma. She and some of her children are buried in the Altus Cemetery.

It appears that some of the children of the deceased Nancy Bean Pippin Grider were raised by relatives in Jackson County. Sarah Frances Pippin, the oldest child, married James Jordan Arnold in 1869. Mary Jane Pippin was living with her uncle Eli Bean and his family in 1870. Lucinda Pippin married in 1870 a brother to James Arnold, John Arnold. Eliza Pippin was living in 1870 with the family of John M. Counts (relationship unknown). I have been unable to find the fifth child, Margaret, on the 1870 census. None of step-children of James Grider, however, were living with James and his new wife in 1870, nor was his son,John "Cap" Grider, in his household.

Instead, John "Cap" Grider was living in the household of his grandfather, John Blair Grider, in 1870 and in 1880 and he is listed on the 1880 census as a "grandson."

James Grider and his second wife, Nancy Jane Summers, had seven children, but only five of them were still living in 1900. In the 1880s, the family moved to Texas. John "Cap" Grider would later follow his half-brothers and sisters to Texas.

JOHN CAP WILSON GRIDER, son of James Grider and Nancy Bean, was born February 1862 in Jackson County, Alabama, and died 1932 in Beckham County, Oklahoma. He married MARY MOLLIE MATTIE E. BEAN November 08, 1885 in Jackson County, Alabama. She was born December 1871 in Alabama, and died 1939 in Beckham County, Oklahoma. Both are buried in the Pioneer Cemetery, Hext, Beckham County, Oklahoma. I have been unable to find the parents of Mary Mollie Mattie Bean, but I think she may be the Mollie Bean living with the John C. Stewart family in 1880.

I am the granddaughter of Jessie Beatrice Grider Crawford.

Has anyone found any ancestry information behind Johnn Blair Grider and Frances Matthews?

My familly's oral history reports Mary Mollie Mattie Elizabeth, who married John "Cap" Grider as being of Cherokee heritage. Anyone know anything on her?

I am new at this but can not seem to trace Mollie to being the daughter of Eli brantsford.

John grider lived longer than his wife Molly. I believe both to be buried at Hext Cemetary. No one I have aked knows of a marriage to a Proctor or Sanders. But, this was all oral history from my people on this. Any confirming evidence on Molly ancestry? I couldn't find her as of yet.

Maybe I can help. Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Bean was the daughter of Allen Young and Elizabeth "Kizzie" (Arnold), Bean. Allen Young Bean was the brother of Eli Brantsford Bean. Mollie was born between 1869-1871 at Jackson County, AL.

Eli Brantsford and Mary Jane (Arnold), Bean also had a daughter named Mary Elizabeth (Bean), (Sanders), Proctor.

Thank you for any and all help. I am just starting and get quite confused. Trouble counting Beans already!

I looked up Allen Young Bean 1939. I got that his parents were James Madison Bean and Holly Virginia Swearingen. This Allen Young Bean married Elizabeth Arnold and had Mary Elizabeth Mollie Bean.

I have that John Wilson "Cap" Grider's parents were James Grider m. to a Nancy Bean, b. 1829. This Nancy Bean being the child of James Madison Bean and Hollie Virginia Sweaingen?

We're Nancy, Eli Brantsford and Allen Young all siblings?

Spoke with my father and his recollection was that "Cap" and Molly were cousins. This seems to confirm that this information on Molly is what I was looking for.
