Surnames: HANDS WATERS CHEW
Hi Folks,

I have a Rev. Richard CHEW marrying into my Gt Gt grandmother's WATERS family. He was from Lower End, Ramsbottom, Lancashire and born around 1827. From the 1841 his parents look like Richard and Alice.

Rev Richard married Eleanor Jane Waters, and later became President chair of the United Methodist Free Church. Eleanor's younger sister Phoebe Thompson WATERS married the Rev. Arthur HANDS, who succeeded Richard in the President's role.

I would like to hear from anyone with any further information on the family.

Kind regards

Mike

HI Mike, I have some Chew's on my tree, I think you'll find it's Tottington lower end which is near Ramsbottom. Tottington Lower end & higher end are abolished and replaced I think with Bury.
Perhaps you could could back on to this message.

Regards
Robert

Hi Robert,

A contact after 5 years! Thanks. I've not pushed back any further. Although I have now acquired a copy of Richard's wedding certificate.

Hi Mike, my first reply said "I have some Chews in my tree" I never stated a christian name.
My Chew's are in that area at that time so maybe there's a link.

Robert

Hi Robert,

I eventually found your tree. Your Eli CHEW, 1832, was the younger brother to the Richard of this thread. See your 1841 census for him.

I'm not blood related to the CHEWs, so haven't got much on them. I have some theological stuff on Richard.

I don't have a tree on Ancestry.

Mike

Hi Mike, well glad you found it and thanks for the nod adding to my tree.
The Younger brother Eli according to other trees married Jane Isherwood in 1855 in Bury which I can't find the record for at the moment but I have asked someone who might know.
I have added some people, records which may be of interest to you.

Regards
Robert

Surnames: Chew Waters Diggle
Another three years later. Maybe you know this already: Richard Chew, who married Eleanor Jane Waters, and had 4 daughters, was the son of another Richard Chew b. about 1796, and an Alice Diggle; their marriage was at Bury in Lancs 7 June 1818. No direct relations of mine, but i have followed them into later generations.
