Wakeman Brooks 1741-1809 Springfield, MA - any info??

Surnames: Brooks, Walkley
I am looking for any information on this Wakeman, born 1741 in Springfield, MA and died 1809 in Haddam CT - married to Mary Walkley, son Joseph b. 1765. As far as I can tell, not connected to Wakeman Brooks (1790-1873) of Springfield PENNSYLVANIA. I cannot find any lineage earlier than Wakeman in my Brooks line, which is descended from Wakeman's son Joseph. Help is greatly appreciated!!

My Joseph Brooks, b. 1765 in Haddam, CT, was the father of Wakeman Brooks, b. 1790 in Haddam, CT, later of Springfield Twp., Bradford Co., PA. My Joseph Brooks m. abt. 1788 in Haddam, Jemima Shaylor/Shailer/Shailor, d/o Bezaleel Shailor and Susannah Bailey. Other children from this marriage include Rebecca who m. Nehemiah Brainerd, Jr. (they stayed in Haddam); Catharine Shaylor who m. William Ely Mather (eventually migrated to Ashtabula Co., OH); and Jemima who m. Stephen S. Hubbard (eventually settled in Berrien Co., MI). Jemima Shaylor d. abt. 1795, and Joseph m. second Martha Hubbard. Joseph and Martha had several children (don't have the list in front of me).

Family oral history states that Joseph had three brothers, Thomas, David, and (cannot remember the name of the third brother off the top of my head). This same history states that the line started with Thomas Brooks who m. Alice Marah Spencer, d/o Gerard Spencer and Hannah Hills.

Thomas Brooks (founder) m. Alice Marah Spencer>Thomas Brooks (deacon) m. Susannah Arnold>Thomas Brooks (deacon) m. Mary (?)>Thomas Brooks (IV) m. (?)>Thomas Brooks (V), David Brooks, (Son) Brooks, and Joseph Brooks.

Are we speaking about the same Joseph?

I have often wondered if Wakeman Brooks (1741) was somehow connected--maybe his name was actually Thomas Wakeman Brooks? I have never been able to determine who Thomas Brooks (IV) was married to nor have I ever been able to determine if Wakeman Brooks' (1790) had an additional name. In one census (I think it was 1860) Wakeman (1790) was enumerated as Wallace Brooks--one of his grandsons was actually named Wallace.

If you are interested in corresponding, I will go through my papers to find further information.

Elizabeth: I wrote to you earlier regarding Joseph Brooks, 1765 - 1836. I found in the First Congregational Church of Haddam's records online the following:

Wakeman Brooks, and wife, Mary Wakely or Walkley, were admitted to the church at Haddam in Sept 1764

Wakeman d. at Haddam 21 May 1809 at the age of 68

Children of Wakeman were baptized as follows:
James and Joseph, Oct 1764
Timothy, Aug 1766
Elizabeth, Dec 1769
Rebekah, July 1772

It may well be that my Joseph is the son of Wakeman, the elder. My Joseph's birthdate was calculated from information found on his headstone. My Joseph's family genealogy compiled in the early 1900s states that he is descended from the Haddam founder, Thomas Brooks. The only thing I can think of is that Wakeman, the elder, is either Thomas Brooks, IV, or one of his sons (verified sons include Thomas, Charles, and David). I am leaning toward David, since that name figures prominently in the lines of Joseph and James.

Which line of Joseph's do you descend from? Do you know anything more of Martha Hubbard, Joseph's second wife?

Hoping to hear from you in the future.

Can you share a link for the First Congregational Church records at Haddam which you allude to? I couldn't find them online … I'd be interested in corresponding about the several Wakeman Brookses but first would like to source what you posted on 12/02 and get my evidentiary ducks properly lined up.
