Concerns with Monnett family charts on

Before reading further, my concern effects ONLY the charts that are reporting that Abraham Monnett (1811-1881) and his wives 1) Catherine Baucher Monnett and 2) Jane Ludwig Monnett had many more children than there were:

By his first wife Catherine Braucher Monnett, there were twelve: Ephriam, Mary Ellen, Oliver, John Thomas (my 2x great grandfather), Elsie, Augustus Eddy, Mary Jane, Mervin, Madison and Melvin (twins), Amina and Catherine LaVendee.

By his second wife, Jane Ludwig Johnston, he did NOT father any children, although she came into the marriage a widow with three dauaghters of her own, period.

The incorrect floating around and copied as accurate to other charts includes a "child" by the name of "George Hull". This is not true. Mary Jane Monnett and Mervin Monnett married INTO the Hull family of Morrow County Ohio, period.

Another chart it appears that Abraham and Catherine - and Jane Ludwig Johnston for that matter - had many, many, many more children than they did. Some of the names are actually second cousins, first cosuins and grandchildren.

There are also difference in the way that these 12 children spelled Monnett in their own later years - some adopted the spelling of "Monnette", including my line.

I guess what I am trying to say is that before one copies information from one online tree to another - PLEASE VERIFY the information to make it accurate. Even though I have worked this family and all of its lines for 30 years, if you copy from my online trees VERIFY everything you move over to yours. If I made a mistake, please tell me, but PLEASE don't mistake anyone's research as perfection.

By copying information without verifying it from ANY online tree to yours, you risk the validity of your tree and you also send people down the wrong path and perpetuate the misinformation.

PLEASE, approach online trees as guides, not validated information. Look at the sources for yourself - simply because it is listed doesn't mean that it was transcribed correctly.

Verify, verify, verify!

I too have concerns about the Monnet family line. According to nearly every published family tree, Abraham Monnet, son of Pierre, was born in 1575. However, Pierre died at age 18 with his parents in the St Bartholomew's Day Massacre, in 1572!! Does ANYONE have correct, documented information?
