I'm looking for my great grandfathers first name. I am the son of Linda Ishman the daughter of Budd & Edna Ishman from Jefferson County, Pa. I remember my grandparents speaking of him although I don't Know his name. As a child the Ishman side of the family often spoke of Native American blood lines, and I have Native American traits that don't come from my fathers family.

I've seen different spellings of his name since I've been researching his name thank you for responding. One spelling was from a list parisheners of Emerickville Church of God in 1948, they spelled it Harlem, Harlan from this post board, and Harlen from the 1900 Census records. The reason I wanted his name was to incorperate it in to my unborn sons name my wife is 6 months pregnant. We wanted to use something from the Ishman side to make him aware of his roots. We decided on Harlynn, using Harlen's name and my middle name combined.

Galen,
I would like for you to contact me if possible. All of the research I have done is missing a few links and I'm hoping you can help. My grandfather is Richard Eugene Ishman (b. 1921 d. 1985), my great-grandfather is Wayne Joseph Ishman (b. 1870s d. 1936). I do know Wayne had a brother named Orrel. My mom remembers Aunt Tex (Orrel's wife). But I cannot find record of Wayne Joseph being part of this family.
That would make my great-great grandfather George W. Ishman, his father I believe is Joseph Ishman (m. Minerva Britton), etc.
Also, I see an Everett and Harlan Ishman named in some postings. Are these the brothers of my George W. Ishman?
Glad to see you've been back on line. I was hoping to touch base with you.
Thanks,
Carla

Masonv_1, Linda is my mother, my name is Richard Myers, I did know the immediate family. What I was trying to find was the appropiate spelling for Budd Ishman's father there are different spellings, the 1900 Census records show it as Harlen Ishman when he was 16 years old, DOB 1883,and the church spelled it as Harlem Ishman, for the Mother's Day Photo in 1948. As of 2/24/07 my wife and I had a son, he was 10lb 2.5oz, 21". His name is Harlynn Myers using the first part of my greatgrandfathers name and my middle name, although when I tell him how we came up with his name I do want to be accurate in the spelling of my greatgranfather's name. I would have loved to name him after my grandfather Budd Neal Ishman but my wife didn't feel the same reverence for that name as I do.

Harlan and my grandfather were brothers and lived on Ishman Road in Emerickville, PA. Their father was Joseph Ishman (Isthman) and reportedly was married to a Cornplanter Indian (Senaca)squaw. Their homestead was close to the Charles Ishman home but further down the hill close to the river. If I understand it correctly Joseph was one of 11 children and was born in eastern PA (Northumberland).

Your great-great grandfather, George, was the second child and oldest son of Joseph, Jr, and Manerva (Britton)Ishman.

George was born in 1870 in Emerickville and married Mary Alice Rhodes from Knoxdale. They had seven children as near as I can determine.

Oral was their third child, born 01/30/1895, and he married Texas L. Gilhousen in 1921.

My records show that your great grandfather was actually J. Wayne Ishman (they called him Brigam), the fifth child of George and Mary. My records indicate that he was born in 1899 and died in 1937. He was married to Sara E. Chapman. J. Wayne is buried at Center Hill Cemetery near Knoxdale.

I don't have Wayne's children or further family history though I think I have his siblings and their spouse information.

Hello son of Linda Ishman, your post indicates that we may well be related as I think I know the name of the person you are looking for. If you can contact me via email at chuckishman@juno.com I would enjoy the opportunity to share with you what I have discovered in my own Ishman Family History. I believe I can take you back 5 generations through my father's line and I think that we will both end up at the same beginning. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
