I went to the computer to help my daughter finf out about her dad and there was Elisabeths message, trying to find her Dad. The last time mesdage was in 1999, but I am so hoping that I can locate her. I left another message earlier. If you know of any way to help me, I would be so grateful..My phone # is

Looking for information thru internet about my parents overseas, I found your mail (I leave in Paris, France).

Be aware that I belong to the branch of Farny's settled in Alsace, moving to Algeria in 1870 when Alsace was occupied by Germany, and moving back to France in 1962 when Algeria became independant.

From the same root in Alsace, in two previous migration instances, other members of my family had moved to the US; they are the famous painter Henry Farny who lived in Cincinnati; and the famous co-founder of the Farny Wurlitzer electronic organs company.

Some of my cousins in France collected a genealogy bank showing that the oldest identified Farny in France was coming to Alsace with his family from Switzerland (very probably due to their Amish beliefs).

I would strongly appreciate having exchange of information with you. Please contact me at the address

Kindly yours,

I came across your query regarding the Joseph Farney Family today. I see you left this message in 2000 so my response may be OBE, but here goes:

Reverend Joseph Farney (1795-1873) was a Mennonite Bishop in Alsace-Lorraine, France. He married Catherine Gerber circa 1815 and had 8 children (6 in France, 2 in upstate NY). The children were: John (1817-1881), Mary (1818-1895), Joseph Jr. (1819-1885), Peter 2nd (1822-1889), Magdelena (1824-1890), Christian (1826-1902), Catherine (1836-1893) and Andrew (1838-1838).

Upon coming to America, Joseph Farney became a Reverend in the Evangelical Baptist Church.

There was a great deal of intermarriage between the Farney, Zehr and Virkler Families. The source for the above information is the Farney-Virkler-Zehr geneology last published in Castorland, NY by Heart of the Lakes Publishing of Interlaken, NY in 1989. ISBN 1-55747-042-x

I trace my lineage primarily to Joseph Jr.

Thank you for your reply to my query. Patience is definitely a virtue when waiting fo replies, no matter how long it may be! I will try to obtain a copy of the book you mentioned through my local library's interlibrary loan program. Thank you for your help.

Surnames: Farny Wurlitzer
I have been researching Farny and have compiled alot about him. There is microfilm that shows many many photos of him. They are available through the American Art Institute of the Smithsonian. Would you happen to have a photo of his wife?
