Probably no connection...but you never know. I have a George M. Duke that was on the 1840 census of St. Clair Co, AL and on the 1850-1870 census of Shelby Co, AL.

Believe he was born in 1814 (census says VA)
had 2 brothers, James M. William G. (b1814-1819)Had sister Juliet b. 1812.

He had sons, James M., William George. Don't know the parents.

Was hoping you might know if there was a connection. I know James William are pretty common!!

I really don't know if there is a connection.
This is what I know. My James M. Duke is on the Pickens CO., South Carolina 1850 and 1860 census with his wife Lavinia Jennings Duke and there children. It states that he was also born in S.C.about 1815. I believe they must have had family in Alabama because they are on the 1880 census in Franklin Co.,AL. I do not know of his parentage or any of his sibling. The family story goes as followed: We are related to the Duke Tobacco Dukes of Durham,NC. My GGreat-Grandfather did not receive his inheritance because the will had him listed as John Taylor Duke and his name was John Tyler Duke. He was the son of James Madison Duke. I have not yet been able to make the family link between James M. and Duke tobacco. Do you know if you are related to this specific Duke Family? I am hoping someone out there will read this and know the answers.

I really have never looked into the family of Doris DUKE. My mother tells me. when she was young, a man came to their house wanting her daddy to join in a suit to obtain money from them. My grandad sent them away and told Mom, that they were probably kin. but he didn't want to be involved in a suit against them??? But, I have never checked it out.

Following info came from a friend:"Juliet Duke, called Julia or Julie, who was born, according to a Bible record, on 18 May 1812 in Culpepper County at Forest Hill. She was married 14 May 1829 in McMinn County, Tennessee to Ephraim A. Reinhardt who was born 14 August 1807, son of Victor Reinhardt of Lincoln County, North Carolina. This couple lived in McMinn County for a few years. By 1835 they were in Columbiana, Shelby County, Alabama where the last of their 14 children were born. Juliet had three brothers. They were George M. Duke born 6 June 1814, James M. born 14 July 1814 and William G. born 3 August 1819. She died 26 Oct 1867 in Cooke County, Texas and her husband died August 1871 at Belton, Texas. All the above dates are from a family Bible as are the names and dates of birth of the children of Juliet Duke Reinhardt and her husband Ephraim which follows"

I realize the date of birth for the boys can't be right, but that is the way it was printed.

Let me hear from you

I am searching for my grandfather, his name is James Rubel Duke. What I know is in 1959 he was probably station at Vandenburg AFB. Also something about a place called Santa Maria, California. He would be about 65ish...My father is Kenneth Wayne Billings this name was given to him by his mother Wanda. They were never married, heres where it gets wierd...My father has not met him that he remembers, possibly as a small child. My father found out through social security that his father was James R Duke. My father and our family would very much like to find him. MY father is 39 and his DOB 8-23-60 born at French Camp Hospital near Stockton CA. Please notify me if you have any information at all that may help us find James R Duke.

That name does not sound familiar but since I have extended family all over the US, I'll e-mail the ones on-line and ask if they know him. I'll let you know if I find anything.
