The Archives in Praia, Cape Verde have all birth certificates of all the islands, including Sao Nicolau. When contacting them you will need some dates. All birth certificates usuall include maternal and paternal grandparents as well as where they're from. Hope this helps.

Hi Jenny, unfortunately the archives are not digital. I don't think they're website is up anymore either. I do have a lot of records though through the Mirmon church, of all places. Is there anyone in particular you need? I can look them up for you

Oh bless you!

I'm looking for the birth record, if poss, of Julius Antonio Montaro (montario?) born abt 1850 on Sao Nicholau, Cape Verde. His father was Antonio, a farmer.

I have managed to find Julius from 1879 in England as he settled there and married. He was a seaman. But would love to try and find anything on his earlier years and parents, grandparents.

Thank you again for your offer of help, Anna. Really appreciate it.

Hi, just wondering if you could help me locate via your Cape Verde records, information on the family of Antonio Pereira Vitorino de Barres: a Portuguese of African descent born in the Cape Verde Islands who arrived in Fakaofo to trade for August Unshelm (aka A.Unshelm, a german firm) in mid 1863. He travelled between Fakaofo and Samoa where he also had interests until sometime in the 1870s. He married a samoan lady and had a son, Jose.

He also had a sister who stayed back home, not sure but her name could have been Maria who had married someone with last name Perez. In this marriage, Maria had a son who also went to the islands called Sese Pereira with his Uncle (Antonio's brother), Penue or Peter, who was either a merchant or captain of a ship. Sese never returned home.

I'm not sure but I think there was another brother Eugene.

Thanks, I'm interested in the Cape Verde connections.

cheers, Berny
