Since my original posting about the Pinkston family, some have furnished me with information that many were seeking. This information will add some more pieces to the puzzle.

William Pinkston Sr. was born 16th Dec. 1733. He married at an unknown date Mary Polk, b. 23rd May 1735. Who are the parents of Mary Polk? Mary Polk and William Pinkston Sr's children are said to be: Meshack Pinkston, Rebecca Pinkston who married John Turner, Dinah/Vinah/Luana Pinkston who married John Howard, Peter Pinkston, Ann Pinkston, and Turner Pinkston. Is Captain John Howard the John Howard who married the daughter of Mary Polk and William Pinkston Sr.?

WOW!!! Where did you find the marriage of William Pinkston Sr. and Mary Polk? I have never been able to locate a copy of that marriage.Someone said they copied from William Pinkston's bible and it listed his wife name Mary. But it was hand copied by this person and not photo copied of the orginal bible. Also it did not have her maiden name. Could she be related to James Polk? Would love to hear from you and will be glad to pay for a copy of the marriage bond.

connection to James Polk?

James K. Polk's mother was Jean, the daughter of James Knox of Rowan Co. John and Jean were among the early settlers of Rowan Co., buying 600 acres of land on the South side of Third Creek. They were members of the Thyratira church, and they were buried in its churchyard.

In regards to John and Jean Knox, do you know if their information is on the net regarding their inscriptions?

There is an old book (full text available to read online) called 'History of Rowan County, North Carolina, Containing Sketches of Prominent Families and Distinguished Men'. Do a Google search and you should be able to find it. Mention of the Knox's begins on Pg 379)
This book has the grave inscriptions of John and Jean Knox at the Thyatira Churchyard Cemetery as well as pictures.
The inscription reads (Verbatim):

Here the body lys of John Knox
who deceased October Ye 25th, 1758
Aged Fifty Years
Also Here lys the body of Jean Knox his wife
Who Deceased September 18, 1772
Aged Sixty Four Years

The book says that for one hundred and fifty years the stone stood alone but is now (at the time the book was written) fitted into a new one that says (Verbatim):

In Memory of
John Knox
and his Wife Jean Gracy
Natives of Scotland
Also their seven Sons
Soldiers of the American Revolution
(Grandfather of President James Knox Polk)
And Their Daughter
Erected by Their Descendants
May 20, 1911
