I am researching the family of Cornelius (John, James 3rd, James, James) ATHERTON b 1736 Harvard MA. I have a great deal of information on him, his ancestors and many of his descendants. Would be happy to share.

I am trying to connect my ggrandfather Milton ATHERTON to this family. Milton was born in Cayuga NY in 1824. Listed as parents on his marriage record in Barbour County WV are Cornelius and Mary ATHERTON.

If anyone has any information on Milton or other family members I would appreciate the help.

My ggrandfather was Rianzo Keras Atherton, son of Henry Atherton and Edith Davis. We have Henry born in 1809 in Pennsylvania, Chamberlain County but it could have been Cumberland County. We don't know anything about Henrys parents but I feel that it could have been your Henry and Marguerite Gibson. What do you think? What information do you have on those Athertons?
Thank you
Mary Ellen

Hello cousin!
I am related to Caleb Atherton b. April 1794 Shippensburg, Cumberland Co. Pa., So his brother Henry was your great great grandfather? Caleb was my great great great grandfather, his daughter Ann Matilda Atherton, Brookover was my great great grandmother. Caleb was quiet a charachter, I have a copy of a letter that he wrote and it is quiet interesting, It tells about how he was in the Masonic Lodge and a devout Methodist, a gunsmith and sounds like he was a good husband and father. My aunt in Virginia has a locket with Ann Matilda's mothers picture in it and a clock that belonged to Ann and her husband Aseal Brookover. They moved from Alberdeen Ohio to Mo. had 4 or 5 children,&Built a log home in Carroll, Co. Mo. Bloody Bill Anderson's gang came to the farm while Aseal was off to war (Civil War), They shot a man at the gate after asking him questions that he could not answer because he was deaf and dumb. They cut his head off and set it on the fence post. Then they road up to the house and forced Ann to cook for them and when they got ready to leave they shot a hole in the mantel clock. When they were gone, Ann and a neighbor women dragged the dead man's body into the cabin to wash him and prepare him for burial. My dad says he remember's the blood stains on the floor when he was a young boy and he was born in 1923( Still alive in K.C.Mo.) Jesse and Frank James were Known to ride with Boody Bills gang or sometimes called Quentrells Raiders. Carroll Co. histrory had it that Jesse was wounded at the battle of Sambo Slough, located near the Brookover farm. There is Brookover Cem. Near Carrollton at Wakenda, Mo. where Ann and Aseal are buried. I slept there one night while we cleaned it off and put up a new fence.
Where do you live? I live in small town between K.C. airport and St.Joseph,MO.? It's good to visist with you. Love,Julie Ann, Brookover,Swanstone, Dearborn,MO.
