Surnames: Ferguson Fergason Craig Harris Fitzpatrick Douglas
Our Ferguson/Fergason direct female line is as follows:

Clarissa Ann Fergason born 9/28/1856 Alabama died 4/21/1906 Parker Co, TX (husband William Jackson Craig)

William R. (Russel) Fergason born 6/8/1825 South Carolina died 10/8/1886 Lawrence Co, AL (wife Sara Jane Harris)

Clement Fergason born 1791 North Carolina died 5/25/1856 Lawrence Co, AL (wife Mary LNU)

Robert Fergason born 1765 North Carolina died 1/1850 Greenville Co, SC (wife Cassander - believed to be full blooded Cherokee)

Until this past week end, Robert Fergason/Ferguson was our brick wall. Based on some new information given to me by a professional genealogist from Nesbo, North Carolina, we now strongly believe the father of our Robert Fergason is:

Andrew Ferguson born about 1724 Scotland died 7/25/1810 Lincoln Co, NC(wife Mary) who was the son of

Robert Ferguson born about 1700 Scotland, died 12/3/1794 Tyrone/Lincoln Co, NC (wife Mary Fitzpatrick married about 1721 Scotland; married Sarah Sims about 1760 in PA probably York Co) who was the son of

John Ferguson born about 1685 Scotland (wife Margaret Douglas).

I'm hoping that someone on this board may be able to help me confirm this.

thank you,

Fergusons of Lincoln County North Carolina

Hi LuAna,

I am hopeful that your younger Robert does turn
out to be one of two Robert Fergusons from our
family tree who are yet untraced.

I have been researching my Ferguson lines
for years in court houses, libraries, cemeteries,
wills, estate administrations, deeds, census, and
family records.

There was a Robert Ferguson in the family of
Andrew Ferguson (1724-1810 Lincoln Co., NC)
and wife Mary. That Robert's actual birthdate is
unknown, but he was living as late as 1825. I
have seen no further record of him after that

Robert is mentioned in his father Andrew's will
17 Feb 1808 Lincoln Co., NC, among Andrew's
married children. Robert is also mentioned in
his mother Mary's will 25 Aug 1825. So he was
married before Feb 1808. He was still living in
Aug 1825. Other than that, I have no further
information on Robert.

There is not, however, any documented record of
the maiden name of Andrew's wife Mary. Nor is
there any documented record of the kinship between
Andrew (1724-1810) and Robert Ferguson who died
in 1794 Lincoln Co., NC. Possibly they were closely
related, but it is doubtful that they were father
and son. Nor is there any documentation that
proves that the elder Robert had a first wife or,
if so, then what her name was: Mary or Fitz-
patrick or otherwise.

I personally know the researcher who decided that
the elder Robert's wife Sarah was a Sims. When
pressed for documentation, she sent me a copy of
a Lincoln County, NC, deed where a Robert Ferguson
bought some land in Lincoln Co., NC, from a William
Sims "of Georgia." There is no mention of any kin-
ship between Ferguson and Sims in the deed.

Finally, there is no record that links a John
Ferguson and wife Margaret Douglas to Robert
Ferguson the elder of Lincoln Co., NC. That was
posted on a website some years ago and a number
of otherwise careful Fergusons accepted it without
question and posted it along with the results of
their own research.

I am descended from Andrew Ferguson through his
son Thomas, Esq., Thomas's son James, Esq. "Squire
Jim", and James's daughter Elizabeth Jane Ferguson.
Robert and Sarah are my ancestor's through their
son Thomas Ferguson (1780-1866) who married Mary
Farris (Faries), and Thomas's son Thomas W. who
married his "cousin" Elizabeth Jane "Betsy" Ferguson.

There was another Robert Ferguson among the children
of the elder Robert and wife Sarah. This Robert was
born possibly in the early 1770's and died after 1814.
Robert is mentioned as a son in Robert Sr.'s 29 Oct
1794 will, Lincoln Co., NC, and in his mother Sarah's
22 Jul 1814 will. And no where else. This Robert, Jr.,
is also untraced.

Have you found any record that your younger Robert
was born in North Carolina? Wish you the best in
your research.
