Minnich in Ohio

I am looking for any infromation on the following Minnich Family:

From 1870 Census, Warwich Twp. pg 403B or 23
Dwelling # 231

JOHN H. MINNICH, 35, farmer, born in Ohio
(born approx. 1835)
KAY, 5
EVA, 1

I have a Louisa Fries (born: 1/23/1836- died: 9/5/1896) who married a Minnich.
They had a daughter Eva, who supposedly never married and moved to Wichita, Kansas.

The Fries (Freese) and MINNICH families were one of the orginal settlers of the
Trenton (now Tuscarawas), Ohio. "the firste store in Trenton was kept by John Minnich, Sr. The building...
was moved [there] from Goshen...and used as a store and home from 1827 to 1835...He continued a business man of the place until
his death, in 1871." -page 8 Warwick Township 1875 Atlas for Tuscarawas Co. Ohio

I believe John H. Minnich may be a son of John Minnich,Sr.

Does anyone have any info on this Minnich family? I am willing
to share information.
You may email me directly at the following address:

Thank you,
Barbara Sullivan

Hi. I'm researching a Minnich family for a friend of mine. Her line is from mostly Tuscarawas county and Coshocton county. We've hit a dead end for the most part.
Her Minnich line is from Susan C. Minnich who married Ephriam Johnson in Coshocton County. Susan is believed to have been born around 1842-1844. Both Ephriam and
Susan died in 1885 leaving 4 or 5 children under 18 orphaned. We've found most of the children but do not have a lot of information on Susan. Her father we believe
is David H. Minnich. Her mother is still a mystery. Just wondering if this ties into your line? thank you.

My Minnichs are from Tuscarawas and Coshocton Counties in Ohio.

Samuel Minnich (c. AUG 1802 - 8 MAY 1886 married Hannah Snyder Gonser (widow with one child, a girl named Melinda, I think) on 2 AUG 1840.
Hannah's dates are 30 AUG 1810 - 8 SEP 1889.

Their children were

Lydia Minnich, 9 DEC 1840 - 13 APR 1874
Polly Minnich, 1842
Joseph Minnich, 5 APR 1846
Elizabeth Minnich
William Minnich, 23 OCT 1851 - 27 FEB 1880
Levi Minnich, 5 JUL 1854 - 30 APR 1902

Lydia Minnich was my g-grandmother. I have a picture of her and her teapot.

I believe that Elizabeth was called Libby.

I hope that this information is helpful.

I was just reading your msg about your Minnich family in Tuscarawas Co Ohio (the descendants of John Minnich) Your msg was written in 2001 --- have you found a lot of information since then?I also have Minnich people in Tuscarawasstarting I think just after 1800 with Phillip and Sarah Salome Knisely. Their family group (children) is all messed up as they show children born after both of them have died. She was born York Co PA 1780 and died 1820 in Tuscarawas; Phillip died 1824. Another researcher told me that the court house in that county has a good bit of information on him at the time of his death but I have not seen it. I show Phillip born 1774 the son of Phillip Simon Muench, but some others show him as the son of Henry Minnick and Catherine Rieth born 1772.Any information you have on them would be greatly appreciated.I descend from Henry and Catherine Rieth;then their son Henry and Rebecca Potts, then their son Joseph P and Margaret A Williams then Joseph Peer and Minerva Bayless, then my father, Sydna Chandos Minnick and Ethel Cunningham.I have twin brothers. I have noticed several sets of twins among the Minnick/h people.Virginia Minnick Lee

Samuel Minnich of Crawford Township, Coshocton County, Ohio was my 3Xgreat-grandfather. My mother is a Minnich. Samuel was born around 1804 and married Hannah Gonser. I have detailed information on the family from that point forward.

I believe that Samuel Minnich's parents were Phillip Minnich, b.1774 in PA and Sarah Knisely, b. 1780, also in PA. Both moved to Tuscarawas County, OH in the early 1800's and Phillip is mentioned in several early histories of the county. I cannot determine with certainty, however, that Samuel is indeed one of Phillip's sons. Does anyone have information that could either prove or disprove this? I have been looking for such a link for some time.

Thank you for your help!!
