I just talked to my father and he said his grandfather,David came from Ireland but his grandmother came from Scotland. He also mentioned that there is a Cupples mansion in St.Louis MO. The given name was David. He is not living but his daughter is. sorry I don't have more information for you. I went to a Scottish Festival in NH this summer and the name Cupples comes from the Campbell Clan which was from Lorne ,Scotland. I have some geneology clubs that I will be getting in touch with when I have time. Will let you know if I have any more information. Elsie Vratsenes

Hello - I have a CUPPLES in my ancestry (they were from Loughbrickland area of N. Ireland also), and I have been researching the name for some time. The mansion in St. Louis was built by Samuel Cupples, a wealthy businessman in that city from about 1850 until his death in the early 1900's. It is now used for an art gallery. According to Samuel's biographies his father was a James Cupples who married Elizabeth Bigham/Bingham in N. Ireland. That couple came to America in 1811. I have been able to find only one proven sister of Samuel's though there were 11 children. I have suspected that the Joseph Cupples who is mentioned in another message in this message board may be related to the James mentioned above. I think my CUPPLES ancestor may be a sister of James. I would love to learn more info on this family! Alice in Oregon

Hello there--it appears that we may be searching for the same Joseph Cupples. My husband's family has done some research on their family history. Their great grandfather was James F Cupples who was married to Mary McElfresh in Va on April 21, 1862. We know that his parents were Joseph Esther Cupples and that they lived in Allegheny Co. Pa. Do you have any info on Joseph's children?? Is it possible that we might have a match?? Please contact me at the above e-mail.
