Searching for the birthplace and migration pattern of James MACKILWEAN, Suveyor, (b. ca. 1700 1767)He recieved a Land Patent in 1738 in Dobbs County when Gabriel Johnson was Governor of North Carolina. He was Justice of Peace in Chowan County in 1746, in Craven County in 1750 and in Anson County in 1751. He was elected to serve as Representative to the Assembly from Craven County in 1746. He lived at Tower Hill, near Kinston, NC with his wife, Elinor. Children were John, Francis (b.1725 d.1774), Margaret, Mary (b.1732 d. 1757), Sarah, etc. His daughter, Mary Mackilwean, was married to North Carolina's first Governor, Richard Caswell. He is my 5th Great Grandfather.
Questions: Did he came from Argyle County, Scotland,or from Ayrshire County, Scotland? Was he a member of the McBean Clan from Inverness, Scotland? Did he come from Ireland or England?

Not fidng your James, but did find a will from the Abstract Wills of North Carolina 1690-1760 for Dobbs County of one
Feb. 8 1774 Mar 10 1774 Sons: FRANCIS MACKILWEAN my new plantation, also plantation called Old Ford on Contentnea Creek. John Stringer, five negroes and three horses. Daughters: Hanah , Elizabeth, Gatsey, mary, Elinor, nancy, Penelpy Mackilwean. Wife and executrix. Mary.
