Well, I have traced two of three brothers who came over from Germany to PA.
I have Severin HERRMANN, Mathias HERMANN, and Desiderius HERMAN
they each had a different spelling of the last name. Desidor came over with
a son Charles he would have been born in 1888 in Germany. I cant find any
record of his mother, so I don't know if she came over with them. I am
having trouble finding how to contact people in Germany. When they came
over they all lived in or closely around Erie, PA. Severin married Mary
RINDERLE and had of my head about 9 or 10 boys. I believe they were all
boys. Severin was one of the first settlers, while Mathias I have been
unable to track down. My information puts him in a city near Erie, well a
township I believe. But I have had 2 people do search's for me and they
cant find anything.

Desidor(my GGreat grandfather) married a Eleanora(sp) HERMAN, I don't have
much information on her family other then her parents names:
Carl HERRMANN and Gertrude ???????????

Desidor named there son Charles but went by Carl, I am thinking they might
have named him that after her father. I have never came across anyone in my
family that married another person with the same last name?

does any of this sound familiar?
here is some information I am copying and pasting from my GED file

Mathias HERMAN
Born 1858 in Germany

Desiderius HERMAN
Born May 20, 1863 in Germany
Died May 09, 1934 in Erie, PA
Eleanor HERMAN
Born December 25, 1866 where unknown
Died February 02, 1925 in Erie, PA

Born October 04, 1866 in Germany
Died November 1959 in Erie, PA
Born Abt. 1868 in PA
Died May 11, 1938 in Erie, Erie CO., Pennsylvania

That's what I have basically, It is a long shot but maybe you can help

My great grandfather John HERMANN/HERMAN was born 27 Nov. 1864 in Germany. He came to USA in 1888. He married to Stella URBAN? in 1898/9. They lived in the north side of Pittsburgh, PA. on Fountain Street. I don't know where he was before he met and married Stella. I don't know who his parents and siblings were. I also don't know who he came to USA with or to be with in USA. John died in 1916 and is buried in Ridgelawn Cemetery in the lower section. Only his name is on the marker. No dates. And I can't seem to find any records on him either. John and Stella had 7 children.

Edward Jack Herman
Charles John "Toots" Herman
Stella Herman
Margaret Frances Herman
William Joseph "Joe" Herman
John James Herman (my grandfather)
Teresa Marie Herman

This is all I know.

I hope you don't mind me posting to you. I am posting everywhere I can with a great deal of needed hope. I do not unfortunately have the information you seek, but am searching myself for my Father, Joseph Herman. I know the name is quite common, however I thought to leave no stone unturned. I have just found out that I have a medical issue and am hoping to contact someone from my paternal side. The difficulty is that only my father would have knowledge that I exist. I do have half brothers and a sister, however I was a product of an affair so I'm not too confident that they would have ever heard of me. It is imperative that I speak with them. The information I have been told is that he was born on Christmas day (?) and would be in his 70's or early 80's by now. Also, he was an electrical engineer and I believe served in the armed forces. Also, his Mother's name was Anna or anne.

I do not wish to cause anyone any trouble I just really need their help. Thank you so much for listening. If you can help at all I would really appreciate it.

Surnames: Herrmann, Herman, Herrman, Haft
Andrea, I have HERRMANNs on my tree also. But they are further back on the timeline...

Maria Elizabeth Herrmann b.1782 in Venningen, Pfalz, Germany.

Now I'm trying to trace her line forward. She married Francis Haft, they had a daughter Katharina (1814-1895) who married Joseph Fromknecht.

Many of these families from Venningen came over and settled here in Erie, PA. Many were parisioners of St. Mary's RC, St John's RC and St Boniface.

I have transcribed the baptism records of St John's RC church. In it, your grandfather's children are found:

Desidere Herrman
+ Eleanore Herman
i. Ann Marie J. b. 1893
ii. Joseph Anthony b.1895
iii. George Severin b.1899 ***
iv. Frances Bertha b.1902
v. Gertrude Eleanore b.1906

worth note *** George Severin's sponsors were Severine Herrman and Mary Rinderle

There are other Herrmann families there in this timeframe.

Walter Lamberton & Catherine Herrmann

Michael Hermen & Catherine Ebach

Nicholas Herman & Mary Jaeger

Engelbert Herrmann & Helen Wagner

Charles Herman & Eliz Wagner

and one earlier Herrmann family:

Joseph Th. Herman married to Mary FRANK who had one boy in 1870, Edward Francis. Perhaps are the parents of these other children???

Anyway, would love to collaborate and share our thoughts, notes, and ideas. Looking forward to hearing from you!

I hope you receive this I have been away from Genealogy for a year or so and I would love to talk to you

I have a question about the information you found?
I do have some additional information I traced down but In the children of Desiderius Charles is not mentioned. But perhaps he was married by the time the other children came along? or he was not baptized.

I would like to hear from you

Anton, did you find Matthew's obit in the Erie papers???

The reason I ask is seven Herman/Herrmann/etc families show up in the baptism registry at St John's Church here in Erie (I have the information if you would like to share).

Joseph Th. Herman
+ Mary E Frank

Engelbert Herrmann
+ Helen Wagner

Desiderius Herrmann
+ Eleanore Herrmann

Then a quick check in the Erie County Naturalization Index reveals:

Sebastian Harmon(b.1799)em.1847 Ger, Baden
Christian Harmon(b.1819)em.1847 Ger, Baden
Joseph Herrmann(b.1838)em.1855 Ger, Bavaria

Mathias Hermann(b.1858)em.1891 Ger
Desiderius Herman(b.1863)em.1889 Ger
Severin Herrmann(b.1866)em.1884 Ger

***this is only the short list***

additionally, in the "Burials in Trinity Cemetery, Erie, PA" book, again some of the families are found:

Section E
Sebastian Hermann 1803-1892 grandpa
Maria A Hermann 1804-1898 grandma
Joseph T Hermann 1833-1920 father
Maria E Hermann 1834-1907 mother *** Mary E Frank
Sarah Hermann 1860-1933 sister
Edith B Hermann 1866-1922 sister
Albert Hermann 1873-1938 brother
it also lists a Hermann monument in this section

Section B
Severin Herrmann 1866-1959 father
Mary Herrmann 1867-1938 mother
Joseph S Herrmann 1897-1918
George L Herrmann 1899-1946
Urban D Herrmann 1900-1941
Raymond F Herrmann 1902-1985
Pius L Herrmann 1905-1934
Severin C Herrmann 1908-1951
Rosie M Herrmann 1901-1988
Florence A Herrmann 1908-1980

I live here in Erie, and tomorrow I plan on a trip to the Cemetery on a search for the remaining families and also to the library to look up some obits. Matthew/Mathias is the one individual I have the least information on, but am hoping to uncover his secrets soon.

Would love to share more information with you and piece this thing together one bone at a time. My Herrmann lines trace back to Laurentio Herman + Margaretha Sesar circa 1750 in Venningen, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello Marian, I wonder if You have found any records of a Nicholas Herrmann family who were in Erie in the 1850's before they moved to Ohio. Nicholas had a wife Margaret Nebel and they emigrated in 1853 as a family to New York and went to Erie Pa. I am not sure how long they stayed there. In 1870 Nicholas and a son Frank aka Franz were living in Kenton, Hardin, Ohio. The oldest son of Margaret and Nicholas was a Philip who was in Ohio by 1864 or about that time. Nicholas and Margaret had Maria 1831, Philip 1832, Eva 1837, Michael 1840 and Frank 1851 all born in Venningen, Bayern, Germany. They left via Le Havre, France to New York arriving 3rd Feb, 1853. If You find any info on Michael, Maria, or Eva it would be very helpful.
Thanks for posting on the Herrmanns.
