I'm hitting a pretty hard wall here, I've found records from Lamar, Texas indicating that one of my ancestors is a J A McCan who married a Martha Kitten Carter, who later remarried twice with the names of Paul and Choate. I can't find anything regarding J A McCan... with M K Carter, they had three sons, Oscar, Perry, and James, as well as half sister Ivy and a few half brothers, but no one in my family can give me any more details. If anyone could help, it would be appreciated.

I am not finding burial records in Lamar Co for J A McCan/McCann nor Ira S Paul and I am not related. I believe J A McCann to be James McCann born in GA about 1854 son of William McCann and Mary A possibly LINGO.

I S Paul married 2nd wife Rhoda Miller 14 Jan 1878 Lamar Co TX
J A McCan married M K Carter 08 Mar 1883 Lamar Co TX - 3 known children Oscar Thomas McCann, Perry P McCann and James Richard McCann
Kitty McCan married I S Paul 05 Jan 1892 Lamar Co TX - 3 known children Iva I Paul HODNETT, Bryan Paul and Druie Hamilton Paul
Kitty Paul married Charles H Choat/Choate 16 Jan 1901 Lamar Co TX - one known child daughter Anice Frances Choate BATY

Martha Kitty Carter had total of 9 children two of the nine died before 1900 census unknown if they were McCann's or Paul's children.

Information from Toni Phillips, 25 Apr 1995, 1007 Mitchell Ave., Port Orchard, WA, 98366; son of William Daniel McCann and Sarah Ann McMullian McCann. M. Charles McCann married Etta Pearl Chambliss.

THE PARIS NEWS, Nov. 7, 1962. 'Babe McCann, 72, retired farmer of Chicota, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lamar Medical Center here. He had been readmitted there earlier in the day after being in ill health the past year. Born in Lamar County, March 24, 1890, he had lived at Chicota 50 years. Services Thursday at 2 p.m. will be conducted at Forest Chapel Methodist Church and burial in the cemetery there near Chicota made by Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home, Paris. The Rev. Max Barton will officiate. Mr. McCann leaves his wife, the former Etta Chambliss; these children; Mrs. L. J. Martin, Mrs. Bettie Sewards, James McCann and M. C. McCann, all of Wichita Falls; Mrs. Maggie Adams, Paris; Sam McCann, Chicota, and Powell McCann, Slate Shoals; 32 other descendants, and a brother, Jim McCann, Mineral Wells.'

Information from Toni Phillips, 1007 Mitchell Ave., Port Orchard, WA, 98366: William Daniel McCann and Sarah Ann McMillian McCann had 10 children, which I have found records on all and death records on all but four, those being Georgia, Allen, John Thomas, and Annie. I have been told by Birdie Frye that William and Sarah died in Arkansas had to be between 1892, when the last child was born, and 1900. Where I find all the children but no parents (1900 census show there last five children birthplace as Arkansas). William died first, then Sarah. Georgia who was living in Lamar county went back to Arkansas and brought the 5 youngest children to live with her. The other children may have already been in Lamar as I have marriage records for 1897 and 1898 or the parents died by that time. Georgia and Rena must have come to Lamar County together as both were married in 1886. It also looks like one of William's brothers named James, lived in Lamar County as there is a marriage record on him dated 1883 and this maybe how the older girls came to live in Lamar so they could work for the railroad. As I was told by Birdie, she said that Georgia was a cook and that her mother Hattie met her father George Frye on the railroad. Children of William and Sarah McCann were as follows: 1. Georgia Hestilla McCann was born in 1869 in Calhoun County, GA and married James Eubanks on 12 Aug 1886 in Lamar County, TX. I have no info on her death or on any of her children. 2. Rena McCann was born in 1871 in Texas, and was married three times, first to John W. Jackman on 16 Dec 1886 in Lamar County, TX and they had a son Archie Jackman. Second marriage was to a Dodson around 1897 and they had a daughter Leona Dodson. In 1901 she married John Robert Armstrong and they had the following children: Ned, Robert John Jr., Joseph A., Ludie Mae, and Lucy. Robert had two children from his first marriage to Lucy Richards; Mary Eliza and Annie Mae. Rena died on Apr 6 1959 and is buried at Forest Chapel. 3. Allen Mayson McCann born in 1875 in Georgia married Mary Johnson on Sept. 12, 1898 in Lamar County, TX and they had the following children: Bessie, Rollin, Ralph, Deanie, and Grandie. I believe that Allen died between 1908 and 1910 and I was told that he died by falling of a bridge but don't know when or where he is buried. 4. Hattie Amanda McCann born Apr 8 1877 in Longview, TX. She was married three times first to John E. Tolbert on 22 feb 1897 second to Peter Hall on 10 Jun 1897 and last to George H. Frye in 1900. They had the following children: George Jr., Birdie, Estella, and Audrey. Hattie died on Jul 16, 1962 and is buried at Meadowbrook on her cemetery records it shows her mother as Mary Millner, but everything I have said it is Sarah Ann McMillian. 5. Samuel Harry McCann born on May 31, 1880 in Titus County, TX married Cora Ann Suggs on Dec 22 1901 in Lamar County, TX. They had the following children: Leonard William, Mamie, Amos Daniel, Obie, James D., Lee Buck, Sammie Lee, and George Hurshell. Samuel Harry had a wooden leg, he lost his leg in a tree cutting accident. Samuel died Nov, 16, 1933 and is buried at Jackson Cemetery in Durant, OK. 6. James Asberry McCann born June 1883 in Arkansas married Salley Ann Lemley on Nov 7 1915 in Lamar County and they had the following children: William Hollis, Levita, Yulica A., Helen J., and Edith Fern. James died Apr 14, 1964 and is buried at LuQueen Cemetery in Graford, TX. 7. John Thomas McCann born 1884 in Arkansas, married Effie Archer on Aug 16 1909 and they had three children, Raymond, Woodrow, and Effie. Effie Archie died between 1908-1910. John remarried Laura Etta Ruff and they had a son named David. I was told by Birdie that John never recovered from his first wife's death and he hung himself down by the river, but I was also told by his son David that he was sick with some illness and that was the reason he committed suicide. I have no death information of when or where on John. It could also be his wife Effie who died in child birth and not Clayborns. 8. Annie McCann married J. H. Hutchins on Jul 12 1903. This is the only information I have other than she was killed by a gun shot at a young age. 9. Clayborne Lee 'Bud' McCann was born Sep 22 1889 in Arkansas married Lottie Hull in Lamar County and she died in 1949, and I was told, died from childbirth (but it may have been John's wife who died from childbirth). From info on Bud obituary he had no children and he left a wife name Becky. Bud died Dec 11, 1952 and is buried at Forest Chapel as is his wife Lottie. 10. M. Charles 'Babe' McCann born Mar 24 1892 in Arkansas married Etta Pearl Chambliss on Jun 20, 1914 in Lamar County, TX and they had the following children: Henry Powell, Maggie, James, Sam, M. Charles Jr., Betty Jane, and Georgia. Babe died on Nov 6, 1962 and is buried at Forest Chapel as is his wife.

Georgia McCann

Surnames: McCann, Eubank
I have some of the missing information for Georgia H McCann.
She and James Eubank were my great grandparents.
I'd like to reply to "pdsain" but the email is private.
Thanks

This is pdsain. I don't think Georgia McCann and James Eubank are connected to James A McCann and Martha Kitty Carter and I am not related to any of them.

Please give that a second look? Believe W. D. McCann and James McCann were brothers, found 1880 Titus? Also believe Georgia was the 11-year old daughter of W. D. identified as "Hestilla"? She wasn't born in Texas 'cause the family was still in 1870 GA-Calhoun-Militia District 626-Image 101. Georgia's middle initial "H" on 1910 Lamar.

I was reading from a very long post to Lamar County message board this morning. From whoever did the research it clearly shows a connection to my relatives.
The dates, locations, places of birth, etc fit the family.
Actually got pretty excited by the 3rd time I read it over.

Georgia evidently used her middle name, Hestella, quite a bit. When husband, James Eubank, died in 1914 in Dallas she married again to a man named Shugart. My father always referred to her as Grandma Shugart.
She moved to Luders, TX and died 2/27/1944 buried in Brownfield, Terry Co, TX

That would be authored by Paula Sain, the very best "regular" contributor!(lol) You read that 3X? In addition to 1880 Titus, TX, confirm: 1850 GA-Early-Division 25-Image 34, 1860 GA-Calhoun-Morgan-Image 4, and 1870 GA-Calhoun-Militia District 626-Image 101? Why do you only have siblings Jesse Calvin Eubanks and Della Mae Graham on your tree? Please add Mat Henry Eubanks (28 Mar 1896 - 12 Jan 1918), died in Garza. Like Paula, I'm a "regular" and not related.

Information from Toni Phillips, 1007 Mitchell Ave., Port Orchard, WA, 98366 was copied and pasted by me - pdsain from the lamar county cemetery records. I apologize Georgia Hestella McCann was daughter of Wm D McCann. Tonie Phillips was/is the person related to this family besides the young man seeking information whom I believe to be from California as that is where most of Martha Kitty Carter's children wound up. I believe Martha Kitty married Wm D McCann's brother James.
