I am researching my family. I know that the DeShazer side lived in Lamar and have a birth certificate for my grandfather Louie Clyde DeShazer. He was born in Deport, Texas. His mother's name is Lavelia Fields. I am trying to find any information on her. I know she was born around 1888 in Texas and died in 1919. I can't seem to find any other information. If anyone can help, that would be great. I have been told she was Cherokee Indian, but can't be sure.

Texas death certificates 1890 - 1976 are on the website. You need a user name and password to view and download. There is no cost.

The same website has transcribed marriage records, not the actual records. Texas birth index 1903 - 1997.

Louie Clyde Deshazer born in Deport Texas 31 Mar 1913 son of Lavelia Field(s)

Is Louie's birth certificate one that was filed at time of his birth or is it a delayed filing ? I do not find that it was reported at the time of his birth there were 4 births record in Lamar county on 31 Mar 1913 none were Louie's.

No death record for for mother of L C and Earl R Deshazer who was listed as Ella Deshazer on Eugene's WW I draft card in Red River County in 1918. One census record says she was born in TN one TX so you can't count on her place of birth as being in Texas and discount the Indian heritage until you find her.

Louis Clyde's birth certificate must have been a delayed filing. The date I have on it is 19 Feb. 1951. I had seen on Eugene's draft card that she was named "ella" and had searched. My mom found out she had her dad's birth certificate and states her full name as Lavelia Fields with her birthplace as Texas. This is literally all I can find on her.

Surnames: DeShazer, Fannie
My great grand mother was Fannie Deshazer who married Hillary (or Hila Riah) Rowden Fowler> According to my family lore Fannie was a full-blood Cherokee, who lived in the area between Adair County (Cherokee), OK and Sequoia County (Choctaw) OK. My understanding is that "DeShazer" was fairly common among the Cherokees. My grandfather was born in 1883, So Fannie would have been, perhaps 25 or 30 years old in 1883. Sorry I have no info on Louie Clyde DeShazer. The name DeShazer may be of French origin. Good luck with your search. I would appreciate any info on Fannie DeShazer. tc
