Dear Michael,

Oh yes it sure is. The DAR library in Washington DC is really apectacular. The bible would most likely been put there. Contact: NSDAR, Administration Bldg., 1776 D St NW, Washington, D.C. 20006-5392 and ask them how you would get these without visiting. Also go to the DAR website:

I am sure you can get information from there more rapidly.

Good luck with your search and if I can be of any other assistance please let us know.

If the Bible of Thomas Terry and his wife Elizabeth Terry Terry was donated to the DAR in Russelville, West Virginia in 1934 then it should have made its way to the DAR Headquarters library in Washington, D.C. There is a proceedure for requesting records by mail or you can use the library for a $5 charge per day if you are in Washington, D.C.

Call the DAR Library in Washington, D.C. for more information.

Library Phone: (202) 879--3229
FAX (202) 879-3227

There are six Thomas Terry's listed in the DAR Patriot index and three are from Virginia as follows:

1. Thomas b 2-16-1762 in VA, died 7-23-1845 OH m. Sarah Hendrick, Pvt, VA

2.Thomas b c 1740 VA d 10-8-1894 VA, married, Ann (unknown surname) Pvt, VA

3.Thomas b 7-27-1761 VA, died 3-6-1833 VA, married Lucy Lax, Pvt, VA

If your relative donated a family Bible to the DAR library, then there is a possibility that she may have joined and her application would be on file. You can ask for an application by exact name or by name of the Patriot. But if you think that there may have been an application I suggest that you request the application by exact name first, then if they are unable to find it by the Patriot name.

Write to:

NSDAR Office of the Registrar General
Attn: Record Copy
1776 D St. NW
Washington, D.C. 20006-5303

Enclose a $5 check payable to the Treasurer General NSDAR. Requests take about 6 weeks. Good luck.
