WILSON, TURMAN AND UTAH 1950'S

The 9th of August 1950, Turman and Utah Wilson were sentenced to die for the murder of Jo Ann Dewey. It wasn't until 03 Jan 1953 that they were excecuted. My grandfather was a patrolman with the Oregon Highway Patrol (Now the Oregon State Police) when the Wilson's escaped in the 1940's - he was one of the police officers that caught Turman Wilson. He was then with the Clark County Sheriff's department in the 1950's when they were in trouble again. He saved a few newspaper articles from that time in a scrap book, and right now that is all I have, as my grandfather passed away a few years ago.

My mother and I have begun researching this case, and are interested in any information any one may have - we are even interested in accountings, if someone recalls that event. We are collecting articles from the Columbian microfilm, and some other newspapers, and are looking into getting a hold of other research material. Ideas, information, suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

I'm working on a book about this case which has fascinated me for years. I am a historian in Clark County, and I'm working with a police lieutenant whose grandfather was a deputy on the case. It was the crime of the century in our town (until Wesley alan Dodd came along) It really divided the community. I have the wilson boys appeal verdict, a scrapbook and an investigators notebook on the case. I've interviewed some of the few officers still alive who worked on the case. It's bizarre, with twists, turns and side stories.

I was married to David Wooldridge who was the brother-in-law of Grant Wilson, Turman and Utah Wilson's brother. I attended the funeral of the two Wilson brothers and know a little about the case. I was always suspicious that they were found guilty, not that they weren't capable of this heinous act, but I, in later years, learned a few other facts that made me think another person committed this crime.

Hi,
My name is Kimberly and I am very interested in the family of Turman and Utah. I believe they are my great uncles on my father's side and the siblings of my grandmother. Unfortunately, I don't even know her name for sure. I remember going to her house in Camas, WA when I was very young. She went by Connie Wilson Barton then, I think. I seem to remember my great grandma too, I think she was living next door to my grandma. I was so young, it is all very foggy. Can anybody help?

Kimberly, I was wondering if you happen to be related to a woman named Joan Mae Carter. She wrote a book about Jo Ann Dewey, and the Wilsons. She is an appologist toward Utah, and Turman, so I was wondering if she was somehow related. Much of the things in the book are embelished and are no way the truth even though in her title she uses the word, Truth."

I was also wondering if you're positive now that the Wilsons are your great-uncles?

My great-grandpa, Earl Anderson investigated the case, and found more than anyone else. This is why I am interested in it. Hope to hear back from you, Matthew Anderson
