I'm trying to find local records of my families. Can anyone tell me what private or public records exist. (1800-1930) For the African American community in Tensas Parish.

You can go to the LDS familysearch website. There are census of Louisiana Parishes from 1820-1930s.

You are very welcomed. LDS holds most all the census records. I'm told they hold a very large vault of ancestral information. I've found ancestors dating back from 1830s in St, Louise, Tensas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and as far back to South Carolina. WOW! unbelievable.
