I was wondering about how alot of families think they are related to Martin Luther from Germany-the one to do with the reformation. My family are the same even though nobody can trace the Luthers in our family back past my great grandma (she is the only one we know).
Does anyone have proof they are related or know of any information sources which could help people link to his family.
thanks

I was wondering the same thing also. From what I understand the last direct line male in Martin Luther's line died in the late 1790's or early 1800's. As many people who are looking for Luther's it would look look like some of us would find a link to another someone on the board. It is very frustrating not being able to find anything much on my Luther line,I have been researching my line for almost 5 years now and can't get back any further than the grandparents.

I supose its like any name-you try and link yourself to someone famous. In my family my Grandma was the one to claim someone at some point had tracked her mothers line which was Luther back to Martin of reformation fame. But I think that is very doubtful as she never seemed to actually know who had done it or even where her mother came from.
From what I can make out the male Luther line died out before the present day but the link still lives on in the female side but for the name Luther to continue I guess they would have had to keep her name-I dont know how names go on abroad.
Did Martin Luther have any brothers and sisters? we could still in away link ourselves to Martin if they had relatives living today.
Its a tough one.

I am a descendent of Heine Luder/Luther. He was born 1430 in Mohra, Germany, and died before 1510. Heine had two sons, Hans the "Big" and Hans the "Little", also born in Mohra, Germany. Hans the "Big" was the father of Dr. Martin Luther and Hans the Little" is my direct Ancester. Much of our information comes from the book, "Luther Families of Mohra, Germany", written by Schneider and Luther,. Additional info came from a family tree (written in German) handed down in our family. This copy of the family tree is currently in the possession of my cousin and I have a copy of the book. My American Luther line mostly settled in southern Indiana. Will do specific look-ups in the book. My email is em_ra2000@yahoo.com

Hello:
I am descended from Albrecht Luther, b 1620, Germany, Strasbourg. Some information I have seen on the internet says that Albrecht's father 3 generations back was a John Luther, who was born in 1423 in Thuringia, Saxony, Germany and was a brother to Heine Luther (Luder). Do you have any information or knowledge about this?
Thank you.

I have been researching the Luther name for some time and I have a discrepancy as to who was the parents of the following 5 children: Michael b. 1751, Christian b. 1759, Jacob b. 1757 (our line), George b. 1754, and Barbara b. 1764 who married Auman. My records say that their parents are: Jon george Luther and Barbara Nagel. Other records I have seen say Christian Luther and Maria Christina Kelp. Can you shed any light on this? Pearl. I have the same information you do regarding Albrecht LUTHER (1620- ) (Strasbourg, Alsace, Germany). I have that he married Ana Maria FROHLICH on 16Feb1645. To take him back to John Luther (1423-) (Thuringia, Saxony, Germany) in only 3 generations seems a bit much to me. That would be some 197 years. Information I received from Kathy Pirk had mention of a brother, Heine (Henry) LUDER (1425/1430-1510) (Mohra, Germany) married to Anna Margaret ZIEGLER in 1445. They had a son named Fabian LUDER who is supposed to be the Grandfather of Dr. Martin Luther "the Reformer". Martin and his wife Katherine Von Bora had 6 children. Martin's direct male linage continued thru his grandson, Johann Ernst Luther, untill 1759. Martin's daughter, Margaret LUTHER (17Dec1534-1570) married George Von Kunheim, and it is thru her that his direct desendants continue today. It seems that all of us with the LUTHER name are only cousins to Martin the reformer.

I have been tracing my family line of the Luthers for a long time and have found and verified my first American Luther ancester. He was Conrad Luther, a Hessian soldier who deserted the British forces and settled in central Pennsylvania. I found a book by Gunter Luther that conects Conrad to Martin Luther. I have not yet varified this information. The surnames that you list are not familiar.

I have a question regarding Anna Margarata Luther. Official records show that she married Goerge Von Kunheim, and the line continues through their children. I have also seen several references to an earlier marriage to Claes Wagner, through whom one son, Emmerich Wagner was born. I am descended from Emmercih Wagner.

My question: is there a definitive site that lists Anna Margareta's husband(s) and children? I would think that Martin Luther, being raised in Catholic doctrine, would have kept good records of baptisms and marriages.

Any help would be very useful. Thanks
