The B-Delaware Lines of the Garrison’s Compass Project at Family Tree DNA have received the most exciting results yet. Recent results support the lineage of John Garretson/Garrison & Elinor Robinson Garrison of New Castle Delaware.

Results of a 67 marker test for kit # 162067 have been posted and he has several close and perfect matches. The donor is someone who has been researching his Garrison roots for many years and was reasonably sure of his origins. He had traveled to Maury Co Tennessee and Franklin Co Georgia to research his ancestors. His test results will help others who are less certain to connect with their proper family. His family is one of the Garrison families that migrated to Montgomery County Illinois. His direct line moved on to southwest Missouri and then to Kansas.
The lineage:
Elizabeth Hendricks
Hendrik Garretson & Ann
Garret Garretson & Elizabeth Ericksen
John Garretson & Elinor Robinson
*John Garrison & Delila Baker
Elias Baker Garrison & Mary “Polly” Evans
Elias Alexander Garrison & Margaret Ann Pickering
John Baker Garrison & Lucile Maughlin
Kit # 162067

The following birth record ties this line to the ancestors in New Castle DE.

*1764-John born April 16th, baptized May 11th; parents, John and Eleanor Garritson

John & Delila lived for a time in Franklin Co GA near his mother Elinor and several of his siblings. John is listed as an unsuccessful drawer in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery along with his mother Elinor and his brothers Caleb, James and Zebulon.

John’s wife Delila and most of their children moved to Montgomery County Illinois by the time of the 1825 Illinois State Census. John’s brother James Garrison and Delila’s sister Margaret Baker had married each other and moved to Montgomery County IL before the 1820 census along with other Baker families. James Garrison died and Margaret returned to Georgia. Delila was soon followed to Illinois by John’s younger brother Zebulon and his family. All of them and other related families lived within walking distance of each other in southwestern Montgomery County.

Space limitations do not allow the postings of the large volume of proofs which exist for this family to this site. Our team of researchers will be happy to work with anyone who has good reason to believe that they are descended from this line.

Hello Cousin Justin,

Yes indeed, we can take you back farther than Elias Alexander Garrison, however DNA testing has proven that the lineage I posted to this thread in 2009 is not correct. We are currently stuck at a couple named James & Jane Garrison who first appeared in Carteret Co NC about 1750. You and I descend from their son Isaiah and his wife Elenor.

James (Jane) d. 1771-1783, probably Duplin Co NC
Isaiah (Elenor) d. 1783-1790 Duplin Co NC or Greenville Co SC
John (Delila Baker) d. 1823 Maury Co TN
Elias Baker Garrison (Mary "Polly" Evans) d. 4/18/1875 KS
Elias Alexander Garrison (Margaret Ann Pickering) d. 4/26/1902 Cherokee Co KS

DNA test results have proven that we are not related to the Garretsons of New Castle DE who moved to Orange Co NC and became Garrisons. Some of our Garrison men did spend a few years in Orange Co NC, but no evidence has been found that suggests they ever met or interacted with the other line. The confusion probably began because both lines had a daughter-in-law named Elenor and the two Elenors were combined in error.

I was born in Montgomery Co IL and am a descendant of your ancestor John's brother Zebulon. Let me know if I can be of any more help.
