I was born in Beverly, MA in 1935, second son of Samuel and May Read Batchelder (both now deceased). My grandparents (George and Louise Batchelder) had a summer place on West St. in Beverly Farms, which my father inherited. He sold it in about 1938 when he bought a house on the top of a hill, entered from 675 Hale St. He eventually sold the house to the author John Updike. My daughter, Emily Batchelder, now has a place in Prides Crossing. I left Beverly in about 1975 to be closer to my job in Lexington, now live in Lynchburg, VA. My wife keeps a more complete genealogy tracing back to a John Batchelder, born in NH in 1806.
