If this sounds familiar to any one out there It would be great to hear from you. We have traced Joseph Stricklin and Abigail Cook of Amherst VA.
Samuel C Stricklin who married Nancy Tooley (tuley) in 1803
They left Va had lived in Hendriks IN before moving to shelby cty what later became Moultrie county IL he had two land grant signed in 1840 he died soon thereafter as Nancy and John Stricklin were executors of his estate.
John was married to Mary? They had a daughter or son not clear on that yet Susan or Noah, their children are listed above.
Would love to hear of anyone who has information on this line. I do know that John had brothers and sisters some stayed in IN a Euphias, and a Joseph Stricklin are known to us, John and William appear to be the only ones who went to IL with their parents.

The Stricklin name came about when those who made records mispelled the name. The original was Strickland of Westmoreland, according to all I have researched. As they moved from area to area in the country, different census takers spelled it differently. I have ancestors who were from the Va Stricklands, his will spelled his name as Joseph Stricklin. His sons went into Ky then IN and IL. In IN they were named Stricklan, a few years later in IL the name was again spelled Stricklin. My ggrandmother spelled her name as Stricklan on her marriage license.
I also have New England Stricklands in this line of Stricklins. My ggggrandmother was Susan Strickland son of John Strickland and Armenti "Mary" Dobbs.
I have been having computer network problems I haven't been able to do much research with family these past few months, I have had several request for the homepage. I must apologize, I haven't been able to get in there to send out invitations to people who have requested them. Then my family has done some reorganizing, which has kept the page offline these past few weeks. I am not sure when it will be up and running. If any of you want an invitation, please contact me at my new email and I will try to get you an invitation as soon as the page opens up again.
Thanks for your patience.

My Stricklin ancestor also moved to Moultrie Co., Illinois in about 1852. Sarah Stricklin born 1802 Baltimore Co., Maryland married George W Nelson born 1806 Virginia. They married Feb 24 1835 at West Liberty, Ohio Co., West Virginia. They sold their farm in Moultrie Co to a son and moved to Unity, Piatt Co., IL. They are buried in Atwood, Douglas Co., IL. I am sure that Sarah's father was Edward Stricklin of Marshall Co., WV born 1760 in England. George and Sarah also lived in Marshall Co., WV in 1850 close to a brother of Sarah, Edward Stricklin JR>
