My maiden name was DeCorte and my grandparents immigrated to the USA from Sicily. Looking at the Sicilian records the name was spelled various ways, but the one I saw the most seemed to be DiCorte. Reading about Italian surnames and how the Da, De, Di, or even La, Li, Lo. etc in a surname means "from" or "of" I am under the impression that hundreds of years ago my DeCorte/DiCorte ancestors were from a town called Corte. I see where there is a town by that name in Corsica, so now I am wondering if this may be the point of origin of all people who have the variations of the surname? Has anyone reading this ever done any investigating into to anything like this regarding the surname of DaCorte or DeCorte or DiCorte?

What was your grandfather's name? My father [Salvatore Giachetti] immigrated from Valle di Cadore in 1920. I have ancestral history back to the 1500's.

Diane,
I can't believe we're not related somewhere along the way! My grandparents were Zanella and Del Favero, Giuseppe and Francesca. We also have Zanettis in our family!

Camille, my ancestors had the name of Corte. They were from Poggioreale, Sicily. Apparently, the Corte family was quite large in Poggioreale. Their son, immigrated to New Orleans, LA and settled here. Can you tell me where in Italy your Cortes came from?

Thank you,
heather wright

My family are DeCorte's as well, however, from our side, it was Antone DeCorte, who was Portugues and French, and the last name was said to be the French side, however I am currenly doing a lot of research into this.
