Double Dating

Double Dating

A question with 2 angles:
I have a deluxe version of Legacy, double dating turned on. I have an image of an original town birth record which reads 1 Mar 1700. When I enter that on an individuals screen and save, Legacy changes the date to
1 Mar 1699/00.
My understanding is that a town clerk would enter a date according to their calendar. 1 Jan 1700 - 24 Mar 1700 to them would be 1 Jan 1701 - 24 Mar 1701 to us. So why does Legacy use the earlier year?
I know I could just write the whole date myself but sometimes I don't notice a date should be double dated right away. Thoughts anyone?

You have asked Legacy to 'apply' double dating, so it does.

But as far as I can see, Legacy always takes a year off, rather than adding one on! It is something that has puzzled me for a while.

Like you, I don't always notice a date should be double dated, but Legacy always does, so it would seem we have 2 choices - enter the later year when we do realise, or rewrite it when we don't!!
