I'm sorry, but I don't have anything on Ellen Clifton. As I said, I am trying to determine which of two brothers was the father of Josiah L., and will let you know if I turn up anything re. Ellen and/or Catherine in the process.

Thank you for your quick response to my Query. I don't know anything about Josiah L.Williams, other than he married Ellen Clifton on 9/9/1880. This came from the Desoto Parish Marriage Index. My interest is in Ellen Clifton's lineage. Do you know anything about their daughter Catherine, born on 8/20/1883?

Thomas J. Williams sr. (Josiah L.'s uncle) and many of his children are buried at Mansfield Cem., as is nephew/cousin Dr. Samuel Patton DuBois (my gg-grandfather) Have you checked there? Josiah L. turns up in the tutorship (guardianship) records of SPD's children, but I've never been certain as to whether he was the son of John Elmore Williams or Josiah Hundley Williams. Do you know?

I am looking for information on Catherine Roberta Reilly Williams, born in Mansfield on Aug. 20, 1883. Her parents were Ellen C. Clifton and Josiah L. Williams. Ellen's parents were Catherine (Riley) Clifton and Robert Clifton. Ellen was raised by her father and step-mother, Margaret (Reilly) Clifton. Also, can anyone tell me where and when Ellen and Josiah Williams were buried?

Ellen Catherine Clifton Williams 12 Sep 1860 - 15 Jul 1902
Josiah Laffitte "Pomp" Williams 1852 - 1919
Both bur. Carmel Cem.

Josiah Laffitte Williams was the son of Thomas Jefferson Williams Sr. (1803-187?) and his 2nd wife (marr 17 Sep 1851 DeSoto Par.) Marie Celemine Laffitte (Oct 1823 - 13 Jan 1881, also bur. Carmel Cem.). Thos. J. Williams Sr. is said to be buried at the old Parson's Cem. Does anyone have any information as to where that is?

Josiah marr a second time. Williams family members recall that his second wife went by the nickname "Doll". The following notation is from the old DeSoto Par. History by Slawson.
"Simon DeSoto had five children, namely: Joe.. Marcelle.. Neville.. Simon.. Cheat (nick name) De Soto, who was my God-Mother [Mr. Slawson's?] and the mother of Babe, who was the first [sic] wife of the late J.L. (Pomp) Williams."

To whom was "Cheat" DeSoto married, i.e. what was the last name (and real given name) of "Babe" Williams? Also is she the same person recalled by family members as "Doll", or does she represent another marriage of Josiah Laffitte Willaims?

Any information appreciated.
