My gggrandfather was Michael Daggett Look b. 1829. His father was Charles Look b. 1788 and his mother was Aurelia (Aurilla) Tolman.
I have been told that our family has Native American ancestry but no one knows from where.

Michael's grandfather was Samuel Look. He had a child named "Samuel" with a native woman that he never married who's last name was "Daggett". Samuel eventually married Margaret Chase. I find it interesting that Charles would give his son the name of his father's indian mistress surname as a middle name.

The other curiousity is that I read in the record's for Duke County, Maine that an indian woman with the last name "Tolman" gave her child, Prudence, to a white family to be raised. Tolman is the last name of Michael's mother.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any connection beyond coincidence....I haven't been able to determine if anyone is actually of native american heritage in my blood line.

390. JOSEPH,3 b. abt. 1668.
391. HESTER, b. (1672); m. EDWARD COTTLE (9).
392. ALICE [*This name was usually written Ellis in the records and was so spelled by her descendants. She could write her name and frequently signed as a witness.], b. (1675); d. 1711; unm. but mother of the following children:

I have read this. I'm not sure that this is the same Samuel Look that is in my line. I have two: One born in 1744 and the other born in 1683, both of Tisbury and I don't have one married to a Ruth Savory. Still I find it curious that my ancestor was named Michael Daggett Look. How I wish I could figure this all out. And if I remember correctly, I think one of the census showed the Look family living next to the Daggetts. Interesting.....
