Can anyone tell me where to find a snake handling church in Western NC or a nearby area? I live in the area and am applying for graduate school in photojournalism. I would really like to attend one of these services and perhaps take a few photographs for a portfolio. Maybe I'll even join the Church!

You should check with your Profs or Minister for this information-or post to one of the religious boards for NC.
You can also check on the UVA site for info:

Hello:

I am a reporter, doing research on this topic.I was wondering if you found a church that would be willing to allow photographs to be taken during the service?

There is a nice church in Cartersville, Georgia. They are very nice, friendly people and don't mind cameras. The snake handling didn't seem to be their focus, so they are not always used in the service.

There was a church in Wheeling,WVa, that was very active with the snakes. They enjoyed having us there and welcomed the picture-taking. That was several years ago, but maybe they are still worshipping.

Thank you so much for your help. Do you remember the exact name of the churches?

There are two that I know of. The Linville Holiness Church in Woodlawn. And, the House of Prayer in the name of Jesus Christ in Marshall. I don't know if either on will let you take pictures though. My dad has a church also in Forest City. My wife and I have moved to Wv, and he doesn't have anyone to help him in the services. We are open to pictures and things of that nature. If you are interested e-mail me back. Thank you.

Is this church an Apostolic Church? Is it a church that takes
up serpents? I would like to visit it!

cody,
I am a resident of nc and a minister. I also hail from wva. West Virginia is the ONLY state that it is legal to handle serpents. Ky, Al, Ga, Nc, Va, Tn has banned the practice and is illegal. You might find an underground church but being from the only legal church that still recognizes the practice im going to say- Doubtful!

Notice- Minister Long does not push this religious sect nor does he believe in it.

Hi,

My name is Stijn Geenen and I‘m a producer for the Belgian television-Channel VTM.

I am sending you this e-mail because I am working on a documentary in which Staf and Mathias Coppens (2 tv-hosts and real-life brothers) make documentaries about things they have been fascinated about since their childhood.

We are working on a light-hearted documentary in which we will see the two brothers traveling and living with different communities around the US.

We are really interested in American Culture.

We are interested in Snake Handling Churches.

We would like to check on what the different possibilities are to do in November on Serpent Handling.

I’ve found several articles and documentaries on the subject. We would like to visit a pastor and get to know more on the subject by visiting the pastor and attending a service. I believe not all serpent handlers haven been treated well by the media in the past, therefore not everbody is keen on media. We are looking for some people who will gladly show us around.

Our documentary will be shot in the US in November 2015.
