I am looking for information on Tiboria Barkshire who married Jane Gunner, daughter of James Gunner and Urth Harden, 7 Jan 1812, Fayette County OH. (Record A, page 4) Also there was a marriage of a Tiberias Barkshire and a Hannah Morris on 24 September 1824, Vermillion Co. IN. (Vol 1, page 182) Who were the children born to Tiboria Barkshire and Jane Gunner? Did Tiborias Barkshire have any children with Hannah Morris? They lived in Muscatine Iowa. Were Nancy Jane Barkshire Hunter and M. Montgomery Barkshire sister and brother? Please contact me if you know anything about any of these people. I would appreciate hearing from you.

Death of M. M. Berkshire

Mr. M. M. Berkshire died last evening at 6 p.m. at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Wamach near Illinois City, after an illness of several week’s duration.

Deceased was one of the earliest settlers of Muscatine, emigrating with his parents from near Perrysville, Ind., about 1837. He was married in this city to a daughter of Captain James Palmer, the wedding taking place in the hotel formerly occupying the site of Cook, Musser & Co’s bank. Some twenty-five years ago he moved with his family to the Holiday farm, which he purchased, situated eight miles from the city on the Slough. Since this time and especially since the death of his wife which occurred about twenty years ago Mr. Berkshire has lived a very retired life. But his seclusion had not lessened the high and active esteem felt for him by all once admitted to an acquaintance with his upright and sturdy character. As an illustration of his esteem it may be mentioned that though a Democrat of a somewhat extreme type, there were few in our community who appreciated to so high a degree the solid worth of the man, as the Rev. Dr. Robbins, his antipode in politics.

Nancy Jane Berkshire / Barkshire is my 3rd great grandmother. Her daughter, Emily Hunter Simms married back (?) into the Morris family in 1872 when she married James Byard Morris in Clifton, Illinois.

Any information about Tiberius and Hannah would be much appreciated. Currently, I have seen one tree which shows that Tiberius had three children - Montgomery M., Nancy Jane and Emily. Nancy Jane married William Hunter and had 8 children. I have their information from Nancy Jane Hunter's family bible as transcribed by my g grandmother (Sarah) Isabelle Morris Carter.

Can anyone confirm / contradict this info? Thanks -- Jim W (jawarters@aol.com)

I do know that Emily Berkshire (married a Jacob Blake) - was a sister to my 3rd great-grandmother Mary Berkshire (married a Joseph A. Neavitt). This is stated in Emily's obituary from the Muscatine Journal in 1907. So if Emily was - in fact a daughter of Tiberius - and it appears that she probably was as I don't see who else could have been the father - I believe that Tiberius probably had 4 children.
Also - Mary's father is listed as "T. Berkshire" on her death record - and the mother is given as "Hannah" with a last name that looks something like "Ludington" - but is hard to make out.

The obituary was wrong about Montgomery being her father - he was a brother or half-brother of hers. I have no documentation on who the mother was.
