In reviewing my database for your Rebecca Mayo who is married to Joshua Sears, I believe you have picked the wrong Rebecca Mayo.

The Rebecca Mayo you need is the one who is born 10 Oct 1713 in Barnstable County, MA and died in CT. This Rebecca Mayo's parents are John Mayo and Susanna Freeman. I got this information from a website that gave the line of descent from Richard Sears, published by the Sears Family Association. I found the website back in April 2005, so hopefully it still exists. It is as follows:
http://searsr.com/richard1/pafg01.htm

I also have the Rebecca Mayo who was born 2 Dec 1710 and the daughter of Theophilus Mayo and Rebecca Smith, but I show no marriage to anyone, yet. It is true; however, that the 1710 Rebecca is a descendant of William Brewster through Patience, but her line is, starting with Patience and Thomas Prence:
Hannah Prence - Nathaniel Mayo
Thomas Mayo - Barbara Knowles
Theophilus Mayo - Rebecca Smith
Rebecca

The Rebecca you want has John Mayo and Susanna Freeman as her parents. I haven't followed either John or Susanna's lines back to make a link to the other Mayo's and Freeman's I also have in my records because I haven't checked too many of the Eastham, MA names in my database yet. It all takes time, but eventually I'm hoping to hit the library to review those VRs.

However, if you follow Joshua Sear's line, he too is a descendant of Patience Brewster, again via Mercy Prence - John Freeman to Thomas Freeman, Sr. - Rebecca Sparrow to Marsy/Mercy Freeman - Paul Sears to Joshua.

What information do you have that leads you to believe you need the Rebecca Mayo dau of Theophilus?

The information on the Sears website exists ;however, Rebecca Mayo: BIRTH: b 2 DEC 1710 The Mayflower Descendant vol 5, page 203.
CHRISTENING: The Mayflower Descendant vol 5,page 20; NOTE: Baptized with her four younger siblings at Brewster Church, Harwick.
MARRIAGE: The Mayflower Descendant vol 13, page 69.
MARRIAGE-SPOUSE: Harwich and Chatham, Mass. Genealogical, by Vernon R. Nickerson Ed. P 76. Sutro Library, San Francisco, CA F74 H42 N5.
Rebecca Mayo 5 ( Theophilus Mayo4, Thomas3, Nathaniel2, Rev. John1 ): was born Dec. 2, 1710, d/o Theophilus Mayo4 and Rebecca Smith. I don't have a date or place of death for her,but she married Joshua Sears in Eastham on Feb. 10, 1731/32 and Joseph Doane married them. Joshua Sears died Sept. 27, 1753 at age 44 yrs. in Middletown, CT. Their children were: Rebecca, Elkanah, Joshua, Elizabeth, Paul, Simeon, Willard, Hannah, Theophilus, and Benjamin Sears. This family also found their way to CT. They went from Harwich, MA. to Middletown, Ct.
Rebecca Sears was the daughter of Theophilus5 Mayo as he referred to her as "Rebecca Sears" in his 1758 will Barnstable Co. PR 13:10-12

I just reviewed the thread on the various messages and have a problem with some of the dates that have been posted regarding Grace. One message says she was born 1794 in Chatham, CT and died 26 Feb 1843 in New Durham, Greene, NY and had a daughter Lucy. Then another message says that this same Grace who married Isaac Sears was married November 1780.

This clearly doesn't not compute as she was born AFTER she was married according to the above. Something is mistaken and you can't switch the dates because even if you did, she would have been married at age 14 using the switch method.

Have you found out exactly when she was born? Who her parents are yet?

Susan: Thanks for posting so quickly. Based on the information you provided, it appears that the Sears Genealogy has an error in both the date and the parentage of Rebecca Mayo. I will make a note of it and include your message in my notes.

I too, do't have a place of death for Rebecca, other than just CT. I have the marriage date, but connected to the Rebecca Mayo born 1713 and parents John and Susanna.

I don't have all the names of Joshua and Rebecca in my records, but in looking through the liast that you provided I have Paul who married Elizabeth Slawter, but no dates or any llne of descent.

I have an Esther Sears who married Gillett Hawley aka Gillet whom I got from another researcher named Phyllis Hawley at phawley@sover.net back in April of 2006. She did not provide me with any dates or places for these two people, so I don't know for sure how Esther might be connected as a child to Joshua since she is not one of the named children on your list.

I have just now entered your Elkanah Sears and the line of your descent that you posted in an earlier message.

Could you send me a copy of Susan Roser's email if you still have it as well as Jean Rodwick's? You can send it to me privately if you don't want to post to this query board. Thanks.

I don't know who posted a 1794 birth date for Grace Daniels Sears, perhaps it was a misreading or a typo.

Grace Daniels Sears was born 1764 in Chatham CT, married 11-1780 in New London CT and died 26-2-1843 in New Durham Greene County NY. She received a widow's pension. I downloaded a copy of this document from the NEGHS HeritageQuest site. It can be found Series: M805 Roll: 723 Image: 699 File: W16401 Page: 1 of 10 Surname GivenName State Service SEARS GRACE CT CONT. Her brother Nehemiah Daniels witnessed her marriage and I surmise from census records and Nehemiah Daniels Revolutionary War pension request that their parents were Nehemiah Daniels and perhaps Elizabeth Worthington. NOTE: I do not have proof, only possibility of Grace's and Nehemiah's parentage.
Another researcher has indicated that it is possible, but not proven, that Grace's grandparents were Jonathan Daniels and unknown from New London CT.

Susan: Thanks for providing the correct information on Grace Daniels Sears. I figured the 1794 date had to be a typo, but had no way to figure out what that third digit should have been. Thanks.

Thanks to for providing the info regarding the pension records. I'm not going to enter any parents for Grace until a more definitive answer can be determined through the vital records or other available primary records but have entered your message about her pssible parentage in my notes.

I have run into a dilemma regarding Rebecca Mayo Oct 10, 1713 Harwich Mass. Daughter of John Mayo and Susanna Freeman. I had her in my tree as married to Stephen Hopkins b. 1711 in Harwich Mass. source Descendants of Stephen Hopkins http://home.pilgrimhopkins.com/lineagev4/pafg41.htm
I have just recently encountered Rebecca Mayo with the same pedigree married to Joshua Sears b. 1708 in Yarmouth Mass. (Find a Grave) https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/194871157/rebecca-sears and also on WIKI TREEhttps://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mayo-2021#_note-FFreeman
I think your post has cleared this up. I will use your 2 Dec 1710 date/parents for Joshua Sears wife and the Oct 10 1713 dat/parents for Stephen Hopkins wife. Unless informed otherwise.
