I have no relationship to this person. I am indexing obituaries from early Ouachita Parish, Louisiana papers and thought this may help someone here. Most of these are already posted at the Ouachita parish archives, but I noticed several are for surrounding parishes and states, so I decided to post them in those as well. Hope this helps!

Death of Dr. A.J. Powell.-- Foul Work.
This gentleman, at one time since the war a resident of Monroe, but latterly living and practicing medicine in Richland, was taken from Crew Lake dead on last Saturday. There were marks of violence on his face, back and one leg, and his clothes were torn in three places. The coroner's jury decided that his death was occasioned by violence at the hands of persons unknown, though suspicion rests upon one or two individuals as the perpetrators of the foul deed. Dr. Powell was a highly esteemed gentleman and physician, whose death will be deeply regretted by all who knew him.

Just ran across this notice. I am related to D. A.J. Powell and would like to know where how to obtain information from the coroner's jury and more information about his life. I would also like to know where to find information regarding his burial. Thank you any assistance would be helpful. I have found him in the census living with a Thomas Goodrum family who is also associated with Sanders family members.
