This publication was written by my father's cousin Dennis. I will ask him if he still has a copy of the publication or if he can contact Dennis directly so that a copy may be provided for your review.

Since I posted this note, I have connected up with Dennis and he has shared much of his research with me. We even had DNA tests and confirm our relationship even though the difference in surname spelling.

I would also like a copy of this article if possible. I think it is a very good chance that my familys original name was Feit. They were from Germany, and lived in Philadelphia, beginning in the 1750's with Joh (how it is listed on the passenger list)Feit. If I am on the right track, the later Feit children were baptised at the old St. Joseph Catholic Church in Philly, still in existance. Changes started on the spelling around 1786. There were also a Maria and Paulus Feidt in Germany before the family in Philadelphia. If any of this sounds familiar, please contact me.

I am also interested in this, as I have traced "Feight" relatives back to Ohio, but I believe it was changed to "Feight" from "Fate". I know they came to Ohio from Bavaria (Germany on some census records). My e-mail address is

I think it was the other way around my father told me a story of feight being pronounced "fight" the names if you do a census search seems to be older "fite, fait (from French) feight" all seem to be older than Fate. which is an english word and how immigration authorities would probably write it down (didnt matter how you said you spelled your name they wrote it however they wanted.)

My grandfather Raymond Edward Fate (son of August Fate) was from Allegheny Pa near Pittsburgh.
