In the Local History book section of The Alberta Heritage Digitization Project at http://www.ourfutureourpast.ca/loc_hist/
I got 2 'hits' with Lake Thelma. #1 ... homestead at Lake Thelma near Coronation. #2 someone was teaching at Lake Thelma School.
Then on Alberta GenWeb in the section Alberta Places Old and New [at least I think that is the section title] there is
Lake Thelma at the Legal Land Description 9-35-12-W4 in Paintearth County.

We finally located this place and visited there this summer. It no longer exists as a town, but it was on Lake Thelma Rd. just outside Coronation, Alberta, Canada. The old school still exists but has been moved to another location and is being used as a machine shed (the blackboards are still in it). Records for people living in this area might be found in Coronation. The newspaper, The Coronation Review, has been in existence since 1911 and we found the obituary of the ancestor we were looking for in the 1913 edition of the paper which they had on location. He was buried in the Coronation cemetery, too, as there was no cemetery in Lake Thelma. There was never more than a school and a post office. I have scanned a map that shows a location of Lake Thelma and will send it on request. Hope this helps.

My grandfather, Joseph Marcus Kolle homesteaded in 1913 on the east shore of Sullivan Lake, Alberta. Postcards from that time came from Lake Thelma and Sullivan Lake. According to my mom he used to tell tales of being a "bouncer"while he was up in that area.
He moved back to Minnesota when his father became ill, and took over his father's farm and married my grandmother, a schoolteacher. My dad was born and raised on that farm in MN. I would love to see if there are photos or newspapers referring to my grandfather from that time.

Coronation, Alberta, is the closest town that still exists. The local newspaper, the Coronation Review, has archives that may contain what you are looking for. We found the obituary for my husband's uncle, who died May 6, 1913 and had lived in Lake Thelma. Sullivan Lake isn't much farther away and news from there was probably covered.

I was looking for a place to find out about where my grandfather had his homestead farm near Coronation/Lake Thelma Alberta Canada. Googling Lake Thelma, your post came up. I notice that you have a Kolle surname. There were a number of Kolle's around our ancestral home near Wendell. MN
(near Fergus Falls, MN). My mother's birth certificate states Lake Thelma. Her father was Harry Wangsness (her mother died in child-birth). Maybe I could find her gravestone at Coronation. Grandpa Harry farmed there until the early 50's. Thanks for the post. Roger Lillemoen

The Master Surname Index (not online) (mostly burials in Alberta cemeteries) of the Alberta Genealogical Society lists 5 WANGSNESS names all in the Coronation area but no Harry and none that fit your query.

Hi there, as far as I know Lake Thelma itself has been dried up for years, other than that its just the road named after it, but then again I could be wrong. Its just south west of Coronation Alberta

This is a strange coincidence. My grandfather was born on May 6, 1913 in Lake Thelma.
