I have hit a snag in tracing the family tree. My family is from NC then moved to Jefferson County TN head of household that I know is John A Brooks (1840) Father to William Taylor Brooks(1865) they moved to Washington County Va. William fathered Ensor Omo Brooks(1887) who moved to South
Carolina and fathered my Dad William Judson Brooks (1932). We currently reside in the Piedmont of South Carolina. Please help if you have any information on this lineage.

i do not think that I am, unless he was a cousin to my grandfather that I have not heard of. My grandfather did get mattied in Chester SC to Rhoda Brewton in 1926. But I am fairly sure there is no relation to a James.

Hello,
Saw your post and found it very interresting! I also have Brooks from NC (Ashe Co. area supposedly) who removed after marriage to Washington Co., VA.

I have a James N. "Jim" Brooks b. abt 1855 (per marriage data). He married Hannah E. Perry on 11-9-1873.

Any info about this couple in your data? Thanx for your time!
Cindy

It has been along time since our last post. I think I hav a connection with your Hannah E Perry that married a James N Brooks in 1855 in Ashe county. In 1860 Nathan Brooks was living in Mountain City Tn married to Emeline P Brooks. This is Johnson County TN but both where born in NC. they lived two house from MY gggrandfather John A Brooks. In 1850 Ashe Co Census there is a john a Brooks living with his father Haraim Brooks John is 11. in the Census showing John and Nathan living close Nathan is 4 years older making his birthdate about 1832, which makes him 18 years the date Jame N Brooks married Hannah E Perry. hope this makes sense

My ggrandfather Alfred Brooks was born in Ashe county NC in 1825 his father's name was Thomas Brooks Sr. who was born in NC or SC in 1774. Alfred left Ashe county around 1850 and moved north through the Cumberland gap and into eastern Ky. My grandfather James Monroe Brooks was born at White Mountian Ky 1856 and my father was born in Fallsburg, Ky 1893 and moved into WV where I was born in 1935. Thomas Brooks Sr's father George Brooks my ggggrandfather was born in Delaware date unknown. Since there were few Brooks' in Ashe county in the the early 1800 census I thought there may be a connection. Please contact me via email if you find a connection. Thank You

I wish to correct and add to my above statement: My ggggrandfather was George Brooks who was born in Wales 1740 and miagrated to Deleware where my gggrandfather Thomas Brooks Sr. was born in 1774. They then moved to SC where they appeared in the 1790 and 1800 census records.Thomas Brooks Sr. had a brother named Moses Brooks who was a next door neighbor according to the 1800 SC census.Thomas Sr. moved to Ashe county NC before the 1810 census. My ggrand father Alfred Brooks was born in Ashe county NC 1825 and was married there before moving to Tn. and living there a few years. He and family then moved to Letcher county Ky. where my grandfather James Monroe Brooks was born 1859.They moved from there to Lawrence county Ky. where my father Thomas Brooks was born 1893, Then the family moved to West Virginia. My ggrandfather Alfred Brooks was in the Union Army during the civil war serving in the 14th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry. I have a copy of George Brooks' will probated 1825 in SC.
