Kenneth Willard “Ken” Trautwein, 67, of Loveland, died of a sudden heart attack June 30, 2004, at McKee Medical Center in Loveland. Ken, a Loveland Rotarian, had been working on a Rotary Club project along the Big Thompson River.
Ken was born on Feb. 6, 1937, in Rocky Ford, Colo., to Earl Ester and Gwen Derosha Trautwein, who were living in Fowler at the time.
He attended Park School in Fowler, La Junta, Las Animas, and graduated from Sterling High School in 1955, in Sterling. Ken attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling and Colorado State College of Education, currently the University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley, from 1955 to 1959, majoring in music education. He held the standard and basic certificates from the American Institute of Banking and was a graduate of the Colorado School of Banking at the University of Colorado.
Ken met and married Phyllis A. “Annie” Hart in 1959 in Sterling.
Ken worked as a printer’s devil, sign shop apprentice, fry cook, insurance salesman, route salesman, oil field serviceman, pipeline welder’s helper, private music teacher, professional musician, new-car dealer, finance company manger and in various positions in banking, including chairman, president and CEO of Westlake National Bank in Loveland before retiring in 1992.
Ken was the founder of the first nonprofit credit counseling service in Northern Colorado. He was an active member of the Loveland Rotary Club. He loved music, woodworking, golf and his family, which were all part of his life.
Ken and his wife, Annie, moved to Loveland in 1973 from Greeley.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis A. “Annie” Trautwein of Loveland; three daughters, Barbi Simpson of Dallas, Kim Huls and husband Craig of Grand Island, Neb., and Katrina Eckery and husband Doug of Carson City, Nev.; five grandchildren, Kenneth, Chad and Corey Smith of Dallas, and twins, Brock and Graeme Eckery of Carson City.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Sixth and Grant in Loveland. The Rev. Edward Kruse will officiate.
Cremation will be conducted, with inurnment in the Loveland Cemetery Columbarium.
